About BMW F650GS Motorcycles - The BMW F650GS enduro was launched in 2000. In 2006, actor Charley Boorman rode a specially prepared BMW F650GS during the Dakar Rally while filming the documentary, “Race to Dakar”. Produced in both standard and the taller, more off-road oriented F650GS Dakar model, the single-cylinder, 652cc BMW F650GS has several features considered technologically advanced. Features like computer controlled fuel injection, a catalytic converter, a Nikasil-lined cylinder, and optional ABS. The fuel tank for the BMW F650GS is located under the seat, contributing to a low center of gravity. In 2008 BMW replaced the single-cylinder 652cc engine in the F650GS with a 789cc parallel twin, but kept the name BMW F650GS. Confusing matters BMW then reintroduced the single-cylinder version under the new name G650GS in 2008.
