FirstGear 37.5  Kilimanjaro Jacket

The FirstGear 37.5® Kilimanjaro jacket is our newest, high end, waterproof breathable shell. Performance shell jackets are the perfect outerwear option to add to the rider’s base layers creating an optimum microclimate. Our 420 denier nylon outer fabric was chosen for its balance of lightweight, suppleness and outstanding abrasion resistance. Added to that we have extra abrasion resistant, 620 denier, nylon at the elbows, upper arms and shoulders. Durable stretch fabric at shoulders makes for bind-free riding.
The 37.5® Kilimanjaro jacket is named after the 37.5® waterproof and breathable barrier. This 37.5® laminate significantly improves the comfort and performance of this technical outerwear by using micro particles to accelerate the capture and release of moisture vapor which helps keep you cooler when it is warm, warmer when it is cool, and above all, dry.
Water is kept out by the chassis fabric, rolled neoprene collar with hidden, under helmet, hood, storm flaps, waterproof zippers, six arm/wrist adjustments and our drop tail cut.

Featuring D3O® brand, CE certified, armor padding at the shoulders and elbows as well as chest panels to provide additional impact protection. D3O® brand EVO T5 back armor is far more supple, breathable and comfortable to wear while still being CE certified for rear impact protection. D3O® is light and flexible with extraordinary energy absorption properties. FirstGear was a first adopter of D3O® and we are proud to expand our use of this extraordinary technology in the Kilimanjaro.

little pricey but really good overall

I'm 6ft 170. Medium fits very well. Great wind protection with the option to base layer however you want. Up to date protection that is unobtrusive. A solid buy maybe wait till it's on sale.

Expeted a little more

Overall a good jacket. I just expected a little more out of it. It should be waterproof but in the first rain I was wet on the shoulders and upper chest. The 37.5 sounds great in the advertisement but did not work so good for me. The vents on the sleeves are too short. The zippers need to be a little longer. If you zip them closed then open the vent zipper there is almost no air moving through the sleeve. Leave both zippers open and pull the velco tab open wide and you will get some air moving. The sholder vents work okay. The pull tab really helps out. If the front long pockets were turned into vents this jacket would really move so air. This jacket fit me good, except for the sleeves. Way too long. I really like the adjustable snap on the collar. Pull it up tight when it is cold or raining and let it loose when it is warm. Overall this is a good jacket. Many things were well thought out. I just expected too much.

Expected a little more

I was in the States for three weeks and brought my Speed and Strength jacket with me. I could not believe how much I sweated in that jacket. To the point that I started looking seriously at Firstgear's 37.5 jacket. Really it sounds great, just does not deliver what they say it does. It is still hot, the sleeves have a zipper vent which helps but just a little. The zipper needs to be longer. If you open it the way it is designed it flows very little air. Leave it zipped up and pull the velcro tab open wide and you get some air up the arm. The shoulder vents work okay, not great. If they would had put vents in place of the long front pockets it would had moved a lot more air. The 37.5 did not seem to work for me. Or maybe I just expected too much. Rode through a hard rain and was wet on the shoulders and upper chest area. Again, maybe I just expect too much. The jacket fits great, except for the sleeves. They cover my knuckles. I really like the adjustable snap on the collar. It makes it nice and snug when it rains and loose when it is warm. Overall I like this jacket. I did expect a lot more but feel it is a jacket that I will use for many seasons. I live in Kyrgyzstan and ride through the Tian Shan mountains. Within one hour you can go from hot to snow to sleet to hail to rain and back to hot. I think this jacket will do the job for me.
