Somewhat better than the 3

Got the 4 primarily because 2 years ago I could only find the 3 in size Med. I really liked it except the neck closure wasn't made right and the zipper/velcro didn't work well together - wouldn't stay closed. And it was just too short in the arms/waist. I got the 4 in Med/Tall and it is much better. I'm 6'2"-ish and 170. The 4's neck closure is excellent, and the removable gator is great at keeping drafts out from around my skinny neck. The hood is a good addition, and I like that most areas one grabs alot (main zipper, collar closure, pocket flaps) are black. Well, except for the zipper pull tabs which are yellow. For now - I'm sure after some use they'll get dirty soon enough. ALL of the pockets and chest vents seem smaller than on the 3, including the key/coin pocket on the sleeve, but the addition of side pockets is nice. I'm sure the zippers on the waist pockets help keep elements out and cargo in, but they also seem to reduce pocket capacity. It is a very comfortable jacket and the hi viz yellow seems brighter than other brands' yellows, which I like. I wish the back was more yellow than black, but I can live with it. It is warm in most conditions and I've worn it into the upper 30s with a fleece pullover underneath.. Not tried it in the rain yet, but the 3 kept me dry. My 3 wore very well and I see no reason that the 4 would be any less durable, it is made well and feels substantial even without the heavier nylon on the shoulders that the 3 has.

Forgot to mention...

I really like that Tourmaster got rid of the thick rubber used on the velcro wrist closures they had on the Transition 3. They were bulky and stiff and a pain to pull gloves over. The new construction of just textile and velcro is much more comfortable and user friendly.

Fantastic Jacket

Great fit, too many adjusters to make it fit on you. Great protection from wind and cold, good protection and looks good.

It is a nice jacket. Sizing could be better and longer. Big sizes need to be tall sizes too! But I like that it is a 2 in 1 not 3 in 1, less to store when not using.

Tour Master Transition $

I bought this jacket to replace an old Tour Master jacket that is 10 years old and desperately needed to be replaced because I was leaving on a 10 day late October trip to the north east to see the fall colors of the Appalachians. The jacket worked perfectly ! We road through wet clouds and light rain as we climbed the mountains, to dry cold blue skies up on top and the temperature varied from 37F to 70F. I opened the vents on the jacket as the temperature climbed and I never felt overheated. I bought this jacket as a cold/wet weather jacket and I couldn't be happier. I wear a textile jacket in the summer, because in Texas heat you need as much air flow as possible, so this jacket will not be worn in the Texas summer. Overall I an very please with the function, fit and features of this jacket. I am 6'8" and finding a jacket that fits well can be a challenge, So thank you Tour Master for remembering, big guys like to ride too ! ! !

Less Good than the Transition II

I bought a new Transition 4 jacket to replace my old Transition 2. Unfortunately, this version has lost some of the better features of the earlier version. The back venting has become less effective. The torso length is shorter. The cuffs are tighter and the cuff fasteners are ineffective. The armor has been changed to a more soft pad, rather than the hard plastic covering a softer pad. All in all I'd say this jacket is a bit of a disappointment.
