Product Information

Michelin Starcross 5 Medium Terrain Front Tire

Michelin is back and ready to reenter the medium compound tire wars with its new and impressive Starcross 5. Quite a bit lighter than past Starcrosses, this latest edition debuts a brand new casing that provides a more forgiving feel thereby improving traction and comfort. Side knobs have been repositioned for better cornering and traction in ruts and with the new center knobs, better braking. And while the Starcross 5 is available in hard, medium, soft and sand versions, Michelin has a put a lot of work into making sure the medium is as versatile as possible.
  • The new casing design incorporates stronger, higher density materials that reduce weight up to 15 percent without compromising strength or durability
  • The casing construction also features MICHELIN’s all-new Comfort Casing Technology (CCT), which provides exceptional shock absorption that reduces rider fatigue
  • Lastly, the new casing design has been engineered to optimize the size of the tire’s contact patch. Combined with aggressive front and rear tread patterns, specially designed for each tire in the range, this construction offers maximum levels of grip for precise steering and traction, even in the most difficult conditions

Reduced Weight:

  • Stronger, higher density casing materials reduce weight
  • Reduced unsprung mass on both front and rear tires reduces the rotational inertia for improved acceleration, braking, and steering control

Redesigned Architecture:

  • Lateral rigidity is maintained by using two, more densely constructed polyester plies, providing increased sidewall strength, which reduces the likelihood of pinch flats
  • Enhanced tread designs with more aggressive sculptures and variable height tread blocks that maintain traction straight up and at varying lean angles
  • MICHELIN StarCross 5 front tires are designed to enhance braking performance and cornering traction while maintaining an optimized contact patch
  • The new bead profile makes them easier to install

Comfort Casing Technology:

  • The new casing absorbs square edges and braking bumps better, and minimizes tire rebound, which helps reduce arm pump and rider fatigue

Self-Cleaning Tread Design:

  • Fine lines found at the base of the tread blocks are designed to release mud and debris as the casing flexes to maintain maximum traction
  • Mud-Phobic Bars between the central blocks on the MICHELIN StarCross 5 Soft rear maximize the cleaning capability and improve lateral grip in softer terrain (Soft Compound only)

Wider Scope of Use:

  • Michelin StarCross 5 Medium and Soft versions are more versatile and effective in a wider range of terrains and conditions compared to the previous range

Starcross 5 Front

I have a 2003 XR400 Front Range of Colorado. I've only had them for about a month. Can not comment on wear. They seem to wonder on the street, and I don't really see a lot of difference in performance traction wise from the original stock Dunlop. I'm only a newbie rider though.

Starcross 5

I’ve had these tires on my 2015 KX450 for a few months now and I absolutely love them. I’ve always been a Starcross fan but the older model did have a few flaws. The biggest was on entering corners, the old tire would lose traction and start to slide. The new Starcross 5 fixed that issue while still delivering the straight line traction that the old tire had. I would highly recommend these, and will be buying them again.
