Flawed Design - SNAPS POP OPEN

I bought these to replace the Joe Rocket Phoenix pants I've used for 13 years that finally wore out - by the way, they had a plastic clip closure that worked very well. I was impressed by the fit and the finish (except the snaps) on the new pants, but I find it hard to believe that Joe Rocket hasn't addressed the problem with the ineffective snap buttons that don't stay done up. When I tried the pants on, I found the buttons would pop open with any movement I made even though they fit well in all other aspects. I was leaving on a 2 week ride a few days after the pants arrived, so I didn't have time to send them back for a refund or exchange. I hand stitched a buttonhole and button to keep the pants from falling down around my knees and set off on the ride. Throughout the 2 weeks, the "popping button snaps" were a constant source of frustration any time I tried to move, but I was able to salvage my dignity because of the button I'd sown on. After returning from the trip, I researched the snap button problem on the internet and tried tapping the "male snap" with a hammer to make it fit tighter. This provided a partial solution as the snaps don't pop open quite as easily but they are also much more difficult to close. ATTENTION JOE ROCKET DESIGNERS: You have a quality product here with the exception of the snap buttons and PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THEM FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. It is time to change the design if you want any people to buy your product in the future.

Convenient

Can't comment on the durability because I have not had them for long, but: These pants are easy on and easy off when I need to use them as an over-layer. The construction looks good and the venting works in a hot humid weather. I like the fit, and the legs are long enough to stay over the boot when sitting on the bike. Very nice pants and very good price.

Stay Away

The first pair I received wouldn't even stay snapped while I was standing. Motorcycle Superstore quickly exchanged them for another pair. The second pair stays snapped until I get on my superbike and lean forward to grab the handlebars. I am 5'10", 195 lbs., with a slight gut. I can't trust them to stay on since they won't even stay snapped. I am going to take them to a tailor and have Velcro put on the entire tab around the snaps. Joe Rocket should have used Velcro instead of snaps in the first place. Everything else about the pants is great.

The snaps SUCK!

The pants are great except for the snaps at the waist closure. The first pair I got wouldn't stay snapped at all. The second pair I got in exchange have a little stronger snaps, but they still pop open with only a little pressure. If you have a nice and trim stomach, they should work for you. If you have even a little bit of a gut, they won't stay snapped, especially when you go into a tuck position on a sportbike. I like the pants and they go with my Joe Rocket Resistor Mesh jacket, which is great. I'm going to get a tailor shop in town to sew in a Velcro strip with cutouts around the snaps to keep the waist closed.
