Product Information

Cardo Systems Scala Rider Packtalk

Cardo’s follow-up to the G9, the all new Packtalk debuts a revised Bluetooth® system and Dynamic Meshwork Communication (DMC) technology. Functioning like a kind of internet chatroom (remember those?), DMC allows up to 15 riders to enter or exit a group conversation seamlessly at any time. No interruptions, no delays. Additionally, DMC also helps to boost the talking range up to 5 miles by using other Packtalk communicators as mini repeaters. Controlling the unit can be done by traditional methods, either voice commands or the roller wheel interface, but new for this year is an available App which allows for commands to be given from your smartphone. And when you tire of group riding and just want to ride solo, the Packtalk still manages your music, radio, phone and GPS with ease.
  • DMC-Dynamic Meshwork Communication (patent pending) technology for large group intercom (at least 15 riders) over a dynamic, auto-adaptive mesh
  • NEW FEATURE in DMC mode: Private 1 on 1 conversation with a group member while keeping connected to the rest of the group
  • Seamless group communication remains unaffected by members leaving or joining the group
  • Bike-to-Bike Intercom: Range of up to 1 mile and 5 miles in DMC mode
  • Voice-controlled speed dial
  • Automatic call transfer from intercom to mobile phone when intercom range is exceeded
  • Mobile phone conference call with outside caller and/or intercom partners

  • Best-in-class noise-cancellation algorithms
  • Multilingual spoken status announcements
  • Self-adjusting volume according to riding speed and ambient noise

Need more time

Worked good, range line of site, battery life about 8 hours. I have only used it with one other party so I don't know how packtalk works. I need more time to see if I could recommend it.

Works Well

It installs in the helmets easily. The units connected to each other quickly. They also linked to our iPhones easily, and the app allows simple control of most features. We never have learned the complex button-pressing combinations on the units. There are some quirks with the app, but basic functions are fine. We were a 2-man pack and used it in that mode. Units are small and light. Cannot even tell they are on the helmet. We were getting 8hours continuous on/connected, though we were not talking continuously. We were surprised and pleased -- especially given the light weight. Yes the radios are waterproof -- and work well in the rain. They are line-of-sight only, with even foliage breaking the signal, but within line-of-sight the range is substantial. Unit-to-unit voice works well at <45mph. At above this, one unit (on an FXD with no windscreen, full-face helmet) would not talk effectively to the other (on a Goldwing, full-face helmet) -- not much of a surprise. Have not really played with most of the options. Units will not connect to the Cardo Scala website using their driver/webpage. Tried multiple cables, and tried a MAC and two Win7 boxes -- all a fail. Their *support* is no help what-so-ever here. This means no firmware updates ever ... Shame because a firmware update set, and an app update, could easily fix most of our issues. Overall: I recommended product. It made our trip.
