You get what you pay for. I knwo I paid it 2x

I have a 2005 Yamaha FJR 1300. I bought it used and had to buy new tires as soon as I brought it home. If you want to start an epic argument among motorcycle guys is ask what oil, battery or tire is best for your bike. Like abortion and religion it will get ugly. I just read the forums, read the reviews and decided to give Shinko a shot. At about 1/2 the cost of the traditional name brand tires and reasonably good reviews, I felt I had nothing to lose. A port touring bike is gonna eat rear tires... I got 6,000 miles on the rear tire which seemed a little short. To be honest I could have gotten another 1,000 mile before I would have seen cords, but the tread on the Chicken strip was GONE. To make sure I was getting the most out of the tires I reached out to Shinko via their website to say I run 42-44# on the rear tire, what would their engineers recommend. This may come as a shock, but I got no response. I put another Shinko 05 rear tire on to see if I could at least get a 2:1 rear to front out of Shinko's... The front tire had plenty of tread. About 800 miles into the new rear I happened to glance down and see a defect in the FRONT tire. A slit about 1 1/2" long right in the middle of the tread running inline with the tire. I wish reviews allowed pictures you can see that the under layers did something strange creating a gap and splitting the carcass of the rubber. Even the shop that put them on said they have never seen anything like it. So you guessed it. I bought ANOTHER Shinko 05 front again to match the new rear I just put on. So I am on my 3rd and 4th Shinko tires in about 7,000 miles. Obviously had I known the front tire had the defect I would have switched to another brand after the rear wore out at 6k I use a FOBO TPMS to keep track of my tire pressure so I never under/over inflated the tires. So you get what you pay for I guess. I won't buy Shinko again. Between the lack of response from the Mfg and the short tire life and the defect I doubt I saved even one dollar. Maybe even lost a few not to mention the aggravation of install and re-install and the ever present worry of the reliability of the tire. I would not recommend this tire. YMMV

Second pair bought. Having ridden Ducati for 6 years. Michelin gave me 3000 miles. Last pair of shinko gave me 8000. When I had them mounted both pair had very little runout, whereas the Michelins needed weights. Very sticky ,great wear, good pricing. Great tires! Aggressive riding, which is my style, are perfect tires for these .Let the doctor and lawyer posers buy the Michelin ,Pirelli and other high prices. Nothing handles like a Ducati with new sticky tires. There is NO substitute. Perfect!!! Rt 49-201-164-5 here I come . Great wear nice ride, they don't deflate every month, these tires will soon become a favorite tire of the masses. If they can get the word out! Ride' em Don't hide e'm Potter hill madman 1983-GS 1100E 74- Norton 850-2000-Ducati ST2-2000 Ducati Monster 750,

So far... excellent!

Used this brank in my last bike and they did a great job, so I decided to install them on my Yamaha FJR1300. Nice handling of curves, smooth.. Let's just wait to see how many miles it will give me.

shinko review

So far so good. Just did a track day on them and they performed well. Granted they're on my Sv650 so I can't speak to their performance on a higher power bike, but on the SV they do well.

I was using the 016s but so far I like the 005s better. The turn in on the SV is quicker and the tire sticks like glue. I do not know about mileage yet.

Stiff shoeing on. Rides and handles great. Great traction. A little short of life, but it's a softer tire. Cost though. Great bang for the buck.

Put the first 1K on my 07 MotoGuzzi Norge and they feel great! Turn in is neutral, ride and stop well, too. I can't comment on total mileage, yet, but for $200 bucks for a set, I had to try them and I recommend you try them, too. I ride sedately, just a geezer sightseer who blasts up to 90 mph only for a 15 minute shot now and then and I don't shred the twisties the way the caferacers do , but If I can get 8K on the rear and 12K on the front, you'll have a return purchaser.

Not bad so far

Still fairly fresh on the tires, I use balance beads but have some vibrations at high speeds. Otherwise, tires are ok.

Great through 1k miles!

I had this tire put on a 2006 Honda VFR800 and haven't had a complaint yet. Finish and fit looks great. Haven't seen any wear yet. Tire handled well in a light rain at highway speeds. And you can't beat the price, especially with Motorcycle Superstore's price match. Also delivery was faster than estimated. Thanks MS!

Excellant Bang for the Buck

I gave the tire a 3 because it is a stiff one to mount if you're doing it with irons. Spoon it on an SV650. Not sure about what miles I'll get out of it, but I have another one to spoon on a larger big later. Seems to hold the road as good as any other tire I've had. The price is great. For now, I can't see spending more on a tire unless I'm headed for the track.

Good tire and a great price

Have had them on for a few weeks now. Grip is good wet or dry and I only rated durability a "1" because I cannot rate that as they're new. Great tire for a great price as far as I'm concerned. (Side note: I have since sold the bike for a new one, so I won't be able to further rate this tire later on)

I put the shinko advance 005 on my katana 750, supercharged with nitrous. Tires are sticky and offer good stability and cornering. Not bad quality at all for the price. Map matched the bike bandit price and beat it, though charged me $8.59 for delivery. Delivery time was average.

Good tire thus far...

Bought this for a 08 Ninja 250 and it fit perfectly... Looks much better than the 110/70/17 that came on it... Went with a 150/60/17 in the rear, and this tire matches the rear, even though the rear is a Battleaxe Hypersport S20, the tread is about the same design... The S20 for the front was $30 higher than this tire, and I cannot see the cost difference.
