Great helmet. Terrible company.

This is a great functioning helmet. The speakers can be heard at interstate speeds. To be heard talking on the phone from my experiences you have to be going less than 45 mph to be heard clearly. Air flow is as good as my 50$ afx helmet. But you don't notice it unless you're not listening to music. My problem came when the tinted drop down visor broke and I needed it to be fixed. The Blinc company actually tried to help me but stated the don't make the parts anymore. O'Neal themselves weren't rude but said they would not help me because they don't make the helmet anymore which is weird because it's still for sale on different websites. I had to call back and basically get a manager to possibly help me get the "parts" which I know won't fix it. So they are selling a helmet they can't fix? They just kept giving me the runaround. So now I'm stuck with a broken helmet. The helmet is fine (when it's functioning) but if you get it don't expect to have any customer service. You will be left out to dry. O'Neal is a name I won't support anymore. Customer service is what keeps people coming back and unfortunately O'Neal loses big in that category.

Most affordable built-in bluetooth helmet out there

If you are looking for a low-priced, simple helmet with a good built-in bluetooth system for listening to music and making calls with, this is the helmet for you. I did a lot of research before choosing this helmet (looked at Sigis, O'Neals, Bilts, etc.) and read a ton of reviews on all of them. For all of its features, this one is by far the best-priced and is the one most likely available wherever you are (I initially wanted a large, black Bilt bluetooth helmet, but it wasn't available anywhere and this was the cheaper 2nd choice). I can't speak for the Bilt I didn't get, but I am very happy with this one. FIT - It fits well, but not perfectly. Based on your head shape, you might find it digs a little bit in certain areas when you put it on (for me, it's at the forehead, but I've read it can be in other areas by other reviewers). Either way, it is very minor and unnoticeable after a minute or two. The sizing chart for this helmet is accurate (I sized higher-end of large and large fits well). FEATURES - The features (i.e. built-in bluetooth) are the only reason I bought it. On day 1, I recommend you read the manual and learn/practice the controls in your house (adjust the volume, change songs, take/make a call, etc.); if not, you'll be annoyed with the controls while riding. Because of the way the helmet is built, the cushions act to keep external sounds out and the speaker sounds in (i.e. at mid-high volume in stand-still traffic of my first ride, I couldn't hear an ambulance's siren right behind me, so be careful!). Taking calls with the built-in mic works very well (i.e. they can't tell you're riding) at <70km/h and is just okay (i.e. they say they can hear some air turbulence, but still hear me clearly) at >70km/h. I agree with the other reviewers that the speakers don't provide as much bass as one would like and the mic is effectively useless at very high speeds (>120km/h). Air flow - I was really surprised, but air flow is excellent! During hot days, its never hot with the vents opened. During cold days, it only fogs at very slow speeds (vents wont help, opening the visor a crack solves the problem immediately) and at high speeds with vents closed, you stay relatively warm and there's no fog! Speaking of which, the included visor is NOT DESIGNED FOR THE PINLOCK SYSTEM! (you won't need it, but I thought I'd mention it) Appearance - Its a simple looking helmet, so nothing more to say about that. Cost Benefit - Its the cheapest built-in bluetooth helmet of good quality out there right now. Of course you could find higher-quality built-in bluetooth helmets for >$600CAD, or buy the helmet and bluetooth separate for >$450CAD, but having a cheap built-in version is so much easier and simpler for the buyer (I really don't know why there aren't more of these out there!). Ultimately, you'll be happy with how much (or how little!) you paid for the quality of this helmet!

Still Going...

I bought this helmet in 2014 and it is still working well. I see some other reviews that have had issues with it and I hope the quality is not going down. The biggest plus for me is the fit, it simply seems tailored to my head. As far as the Bluetooth, well, not perfect BUT usable. When I use the connection to my phone to use as my gps it works GREAT! REALLY loud and clear. I do not do a lot of music while riding, I like the sound of my bike and everything around me unless in traffic. The music does work well though I have a 2014 Suzuki VSTROM 1000A and I have no problem hearing the GPS at ANY speed BUT the phone receives GREAT but sending a call to another person they said it sounded like I was in a fishbowl, you know, that sort of after voice doubling. What I DID do to help this issue is move the microphone further forward so I am talking straight into it. It is simple to do with plenty of available wire tucked up in there. I used velcro to move it where it worked the best close to my mouth on the inside shell. The reason I used velcro is the one strip sticks to the helmet shell, I put the mic into position, sandwich it in with the other piece so it just sticks out from the velvro and then now on the sticky side closest to me I put the "soft" part of the hook and loop which reduced echo and dampens noise. Originally it is up away from your mouth near your left cheek bone. NOW it seems to work MUCH better as I ca usually have a conversation with no distortion. The connection is like most, if you drop down into a river bed or lowland connection gets lost. It is is a line of sight connection, as most are. So for the fit and simple improvement I have a great fitting helmet with decent communication. I have no scratches in the visor yet and it has been dropped a few times. I really like the drop down visor especially when it is HOT out. Here in MD it gets HOT in the summer and pretty darn cold in the winter. I ride all year as long as there is no ice. I dinged the airflow just a bit, it works fine but really could use a couple more vents.I have the HiViz and it is DEFINITELY visible!!! All in all though, it still keeps going...

Great for the price, and below 65 mph

I have tested the helmet with GPS, Phone and Ipod. Great sound when cruising on the back roads between 55 and 65 mph...which is what I am looking for. On a freeway at 70 75 mph, just forget it, it's like listening the radio in a car with all windows open... So for the price, it is a great helmet, comfortable with great features. I have not yet tested it with the 90f that we are facing these days. So I cannot really say a word about the ventilation I used to ride with a Shoe.

It's Ok

I have not used a bluetooth motorcycle helmets before so I have nothing to compare this with. It was easy to pair and the instructions were ok. It is great for listening to music but poor to very poor for communication between helmets. The sound is full of static and about every other word is lost. The helmet does not give great airflow and if exposed to any wind at all it is quite noisy. I will continue to use this until I am able to find a helmet with a better bluetooth unit and more efficient airflow. I would not buy this again nor would I recommend it.

Overpriced

I am huge on reviews so listen when i say this. I have had this helmet for 3 years now and its great for what I need. PRO: The speaker blutooth works awesome ONLY with listening to music, Don't expect to talk to anybody on the phone or comminicate between helmets. You are on your bike, the one time you should be enjoying yourself away from your phone!! CON: The speaker quality is terrible, I have to have the volume all the way up on my STOCK 600RR. The microphone almost doesnt work at all even when sitting still. PRO: The Battery lasts a pretty long time on a good charge but the low battery indicator gives you about 2 min before it goes dead. CON: The plastic shield that it comes with is very soft and scratches easily. PRO: The built in sunshade works beautifully open and closes with no issues. CON: The helmet is somewhat bulky, with a lot of wind on a sport bike expect to grow some neck muscles keeping you straight. Since I used to listen to music on my headphones with my old helmet and deal with the wire, I would expect to pay $180-$200 Maximum for this helmet.

very poor quality

I purchased 2 of these helmets so I could listen to music and GPS as well as talk to my daughter if she road with me. The speaker system quality is very poor. The fit and finish is absolutely the worse I have ever seen. I got the helmet and first ride the blink cover flew off. They sent me new ones that also flew off. The second helmet the lever for the sun shade flew off and the sun shade defaults to the extended position that now you can't ride at night. I really don't suggest to purchase this helmet. It will not last. I am back in the search for a helmet that integrates with my phone. Come on step up someone.

Exceptional Value. Notable pros and cons

This is an outstanding bang for your buck. Its looks, fit and features is a ton of value for the prince tag. That being said the BT system leaves something to be desired. Good luck having civilized conversations beyond 40MPH in my case. BUT it should be noted that this helmet is slightly to big for me and with a better fit it would probably be less noisy for the recipient. This helmet looks sharp and I get constant compliments on it. The airflow is also exceptional, it has never fogged up on me before.

O'Neal Racing Helmet

I love my helmet! I agree with the people who have previously stated that once you get up to a certain speed you can no longer hear anything, but it's great for lower, cruising speeds to listen to music.

Good helmet for the price

Bluetooth gets real choppy when going over about 45-50mph. The speakers could be better. Can get hard to hear if you have a loud bike. Overall though it's a good helmet it fits and looks good

Good purchase

Good fit. Some minor issues with the fit around the neck and air flow, but a good helmet for the price. The bluetooth works very well. I would recommend for someone looking for a helmet with bluetooth and a smaller budget.

Works well if you are riding less and 40 miles

If this helmet was $129 I would say it is a good buy for the price. But when you spent over $250 you expect better. The only reason I bought this helmet was that it has a built in Bluetooth. When I ride less than 40 Miles i can hear the music. but when i go faster I have to turn on the volume up and with the wind sound I can't hear anything. The Helmet itself is very noisy. I wouldn't recommend this helmet as a quality one. If it was cheaper I would say average but with the price it is less than average.

Liked the Helmet, but Poor Quality

I purchased 3 of these O'Neal Commanders in high-vis yellow. All 3 were defective for different reasons. The first one, only 1 speaker worked. I returned it and bought another. The 2nd one, the sun visor switch was broken off and I don't believe it could have been damaged during shipping. Returned that one and got a 3rd and would you believe it, one of the top vents didn't function properly. It didn't stay fully open. I liked this helmet, the fit, sound, layout, and appearance were good, but the quality is not there and I would not recommend.

It looks good but....

The helmet is nice overall. Fit and finish is a little lacking. First off the bat the cover for the blue tooth button blew off the first ride. The O'Neal folks sent me a new one that I could glue on. The blue tooth works well and the music and turn by turn navigation if your using your phone works well at slightly above the speed limits. The music quality is poor. Come on, team up with BOSE. People can hear you perfectly at a light but once your moving not so much. After taking the helmet on/off the liner is actually starting to fall apart and is coming unglued from the inside. If you don't mind doing some of your own repair and you mostly plan to listen to music and your GPS navigation from your phone its a good helmet.
