Love these tires

This is my 2nd set of these and I put over 17k miles on the back tire on the last one. These are the best priced tires for the wear you get out of them, I ride an Ultra Classic Electra glide , best move I ever made. They grip well and seem to love corners as much as I do.

Amazing tire

Before this tire I only ran 880s and it was my favorite tire because of the longevity, traction, just overall performance really. Sadly metzeler stopped making the 880 in my rear tire size so I had to get the 888 and it does not disappoint. The 888 really gives you the confidence to take corners harder than normal and you just feel like your gliding down the road I haven't had the chance to take these out in the rain but if they're anything like their predecessor they'll do just fine.

Review

I was very impressed with these tires. Good traction in lead angels, stable on unstable roads and good tire life. I will be buying them again. My bike is a 2005 Yamaha Road Star Midnight Silverado and it loves these tires.

Metzler 888 rear tire

The tire is a great quality and handling product. However the size is very misleading. It's considerably taller, and more of a 140/90 than a 130/90. It rubs the fender when a passenger is on the back (my wife is only about 120#). I have run the 880, 130/90 16 on the back of my 2003 FLHR for years with no trouble and getting about 8,000 mi per tire (rear). Would go back to the 880 if they were still available.

888's are great!

Installed both front and rear 888's on my Honda VTX1300R in preparation of a circle the United States Tour. After 10,000 miles of curves, desert heat and high speed roadways, the tires performed flawlessly! I can't comment on rain performance as I only experienced around an hour in the rain during my 6 week trip. Cornering was a breeze as the tires stuck like glue to the road. Tread life after 10,000 miles is still good with an anticipated 5,000 more miles. Very satisfied and the 888's are my go to treads.

ME 888 Marathon Ultra Rear Tire

Purchased a set of these tires for my VTX1300C based on reviews which indicated better wear and longevity. They were right. I got 15K on them and felt there was probably 5-6K left on the tread. But they got scary slick on damp or wet pavement. Simple braking could turn into a skid. Absolutely no grip, except in my sphincter muscles! After several close calls this spring, I had enough and went back to Dunlops. I've put 45K miles on this bike in 5 years, riding in all weather from rain to sleet, and temps from 30° to 110° .

Best wearing tire

I installed the 888 on the rear of my 85 650 Nighthawk to replace the excellent 880 that gave me around 15,000 miles. The 888 is now down to the wear indicators at 19,650 miles, outstanding!! This is not a real heavy bike and only weighs about 725lbs with me and my gear on it, but with these tires, I also have an 888 on the front, it handles worlds better than with the Dunlop 404's or even the elites!I'm going to replace the rear with another 888 for sure! I only gave 4 stars for wet traction as they seem a little slippery on a wet street!

Checking it out

I've only had the rear triple 8 for a month but when it was mounted on the wheel it required NO balance weights the machine read 0.00 to me that's a sign of quality right there. I've only been in the rain for 20 miles With it so can't give a report for wet traction with that little of miles. Previous rear tire was a commander II and got 11,000 miles on it to the wear bars so im hopping to get lots more with the triple 8. So far it's a great tire.

Super long life

I ride a '10 Road King and have quite a few miles on it. I've replaced the factory Dunlops and gone through 4 rear tires and 2 front tires before changing over to the 888's. I've averaged 12,000 miles on the rear with the Dunlops before the wear bar comes through and it's time to replace, 24,000 on the front tires. Mostly highway miles. This was the first rear I've replaced, and it took 19,000 miles to get down to the wear bar. Great tires for going the distance for sure. Comparing strictly to the Dunlops, there is slightly more road noise with the 888's than the factory Dunlops. It's hardly noticeable, but can be annoying if you're OCD like me. I also feel like they don't grab as well in the wet because it's a harder compound (tradeoff for longer life). Overall, the jury is still out if I will replace these with 888's again or go back to the Dunlops. I love the longer life, but the Dunlops really are a good tire as well.

Not for AZ

This tire makes promises that its better than the Marathon 880. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I ride a '05 Honda VTX1300 and ride approx. 100 miles at a time. The first 888 I put on the rear of my bike approx. halfway through the tread life the left side of the tire came off of the tire in patches down to the cord. Thinking this is a fluke I replaced with another 888. I have had the tire for only one month and the tread is again showing signs of cracks throughout the tread. I don't race or abuse the bike the highest speeds taken are highway speeds (75-80). I'll let everybody know how the warranty goes. But if you live in AZ and ride in the heat the tire won't hold up.

Excellent handling

I haven't been on a wet road with the new tire yet, but the exact same tire replaced was reassuring. We have put about 1k on the new tire and really enjoy the stability on uneven pavement.
