Firstgear Mesh Tex Jacket

Showing that a summer riding jacket need not be overly complicated or expensive, the Firstgear Mesh Tex provides outstanding venting at a price that is substantially less than its many competitors. Made of a 100% mesh polyester construction, the Mesh Tex lets nothing get in the way of airflow, yet when the temperatures drop a full length liner zips in easily and quickly. Additionally, protectors in the elbows, shoulders and back help give protection against the street. Lightweight and simple, this Firstgear jacket makes an easy choice for the street bike rider living in the heat.

Very pleased with this purchase

I can't imagine a jacket that's better to wear riding in hot weather. (even 85-90 degree days) With the liner out, this jacket feels really safe with the textile material and the built in armor, and breathes INCREDIBLY well. As soon as I start rolling, the air flows through it freely. The heat gets pulled right off of you. Then, with the liner snapped in, the windbreaker material keeps me more than warm enough for those 65-70 degree late night/early morning rides. For what I spent on it, I couldn't be happier. I'm 6'5" 165 lbs (super tall and skinny) and the medium tall fits me great. I could use another inch maybe in the sleeves but that's to be expected for my lankiness. I just got a pair of gloves that are designed to tighten over the sleeve and problem solved.

High Vis Firsdt Gear Jacket

I've had this jacket in Red for more years than I can remember and so when I decided the high visibility yellow made safety sense I would only look for the same jacket I've enjoyed for umpteen years but in a different color. Always stick with a winner. The comfort is outstanding, and it is easy to spot in a crowd, fits right and is just another reason to buy First Gear. I feel like I get more than my money's worth and can see no reason to have to ever replace this jacket. I bet it will last longer than I will. Ed

Love Firstgear products

One of the few manufacturers that I like the fit, and can get tall sizes. I'm 6'2 and 218. XL tall fit great. Sleeve length is generous, but perfect length for me when on the bike. Comfortable even when riding in 90 degree temps.

Hi Viz Mesh Jacket

I'm delighted with my First Gear Hi Viz mesh jacket. The fit was perfect and I ordered my size. On a recent ride, I was comfortable in a Tee shirt with the liner in place at 60 degrees. As the day warmed I simply removed the liner and was comfortable at 90+. Being 'seen' is very important to me.

first gear mesh tech hi-viz

Love this jacket. Really lets lots of air into the body, have had four other mesh jackets including an Olympia, TourTech, Joe Rocket and another model of First Gear and this this one is the best so far. I also like the fact that this jacket has almost no other colors other than the hi-viz so that it is more visible than any other that I have had as well. I did add more and better armor in the back and the pocket accepted it without modification. I have not had this jacket long enough to know how well it will hold up over the long run. I ordered the 2XLT and the length of the arms and waist are perfect. The arms are just a bit too large in diameter, but that can be just me. I will modify the cuffs so that I can get them into the gauntlets easier. The jacket was a bit more costly than others that I had considered, but much less than the Olympia.

Great Purchase

Love the hi-viz and look of this jacket. I bought a large which was just right- snug at waist but ample enough at chest and shoulders(I'm about a 42 chest w 34 waist) With the liner I have worn it on colder rainy days with medium base layers underneath and was dry, warm and comfortable all day. (@ 10C)I really bought it for protection on hotter days- and have been fine @ 24C+. The armour fits well. I am pleased with this jacket and the price point.

Mesh Tex Jacket

The overall fit and finish is very good. A couple of things would make it an over the top jacket for me, and that would be if the sleeves had velcro closures instead of snaps. Also the forearm protection is loose and floppy, it would be nice if there was an adjuster strap made on it so that it could be tightened around the forearm. Other than that, it's a very good jacket, breathes well, and the velcro waist adjusters are great.

peter 8/2014

Bought medium hi-viz and I like the fact it is hiviz all over, keeps the sun heat down. The sleeves are tight and the snaps at the wrist should be velcro for adjustability. Don't think a long sleeve vest will fit if the liner is installed. Was thinking of getting a large but the sleeves may be too long. As others have said, the armor is bulky. Air ventilation is adequate. For the cost it is good.

Mex tech jacket

The fit is perfect. The only problem is the armor position. It's not even close to fitting properly. The elbows are too low and the shoulders are too wide, meaning the armor. Don't like it for that reason. Very uncomfortable. Wore it twice and won't wear again.

great summer coat

This jacket flows a ton of air when you're up to speed, and in 65 F weather, you'll actually get cold! Also, for summer riding get a light colored coat, like the hi-viz (my choice) or the silver. A dark coat gets hot when you're going slow or standing still. The liner doesn't breath at all, so I don't ever use it. Even though I got the hi-viz, there are still plenty of people out there who do their very best NOT to see you. Yes, get the hi-viz for your own safety, but do stay vigilant of distracted drivers.

I have to agree with the positive reviews.

This is my second time I have ordered this jacket because the one I had earlier worked out so well. I had to get a new one because I have lost weight and it was too big to be comfortable. I recommended this jacket to a friend and he bought one too. This is a great value.

I like it

I like this jacket. I have ridden in 85 degrees with the liner out and it gets great airflow. I bought the day glow yellow and this thing is BRIGHT! I am 5'10 190lbs (bit of a gut) and I bought the XL. The fit is perfect. I wish the sleeves had velcro instead of snaps for better adjustment (my only complaint). But the sleeve length is good. With the liner in the jacket was warm at 60 degrees. It is not an all season jacket. I bought it mainly for summer riding.

First Gear Mesh Tex Jacket

Great warm weather jacket, ventilates well and the light color is not as hot when sitting in traffic. Button snaps on the sleeves was a surprise however. Definitely recommend this product.
