Older design that works really well

My riding partner uses the MT16 on the rear of his KTM520 exclusively, claiming they work really well and last longer than almost anything else. He's been telling me I should try one for quite a few years now. Being a hardcore Dunlop guy, I have thought the MT16 was too old school to even consider. But since I usually go through 4+ sets of tires per year I finally gave in and decided to try one to see if it might last a bit longer as he said. As much as I hate to admit it, I have found that the MT16 does work quite well, and without a doubt lasts much longer. It sure surprised me.

Best traction in all soil conditions

I replaced an IRC on the back of my Husqvarna te410 with the MT16 110/100x18 and have never found a weather condition or terrain that it will not work well in. I ride in hard pack clay and rocks as well as soft loamy rocky terrain and it very seldom loses traction. The best tire for the money for off road woods ridding.

So far so good.

So keep in mind a few key points: Tire hasn't been on all that long and I have only ridden wet, soggy organic soil (Western Wa. woods) and some sandy/rocky mix (Mattawa). It is hooking up really well on hillclimbs in loose soil and sand, and there is a fair amount- alternating 2 and 3 knobs on the corners of the tire. Lifespan is to be determined, hard to know on more rocky mountain single track how this may hold up. Early in the tires life, so take the 5 stars with some caveat.

Meat. Period.............

Best tire. They are the most aggressive knobbies I've seen for East Coast riding. Softer, yet durable compound. Works well on rocks, roots, sand and loam.

Awesome

Tried numerous different tires over the last 20+ years. Keep going back to the mt 16. Best tire for old school 4 strokes. Handles all types of northeastern USA terrain, plus long life. Currently riding a knob shredding xr650r with great results.

Gnarly terrain tire

This tire work's great in rocks and tree roots. You don't even know you are riding on them. Great tire for the ECEA rock runs in PA.

MT 16

Best tires I've found. I run them front and rear on a KTM 450EXC. Now they are even DOT rated so they are legal on my dual sport.

Worst best tire ever... ?? READ ON -- CHUNKS OUT BAD

I run a 08 WR450 in the roots and rocks of New England THe tire hooks up great BUT!! Beware this tire is good for about 5-10 runs MAX No joke, i have used a bunch of them i got so pissed that the thing would chunk SO bad before even a little wear It will rip rows at a time and they come off at the mold base not from sharp rocks. I went to the MX Extra and it will last a whloe season! A little less traction but worth the trade off.I use to go through 3 or 4 MT16

Used to be a Michelin S12 rider

Thought the S12 was a great tire on the rear. Friends convinced me to try a MT16. They were correct. Where the S12 became weak, the MT16 continued to be strong and exceed my expectations. The S12 is a great tire. However, it gives you no warning and then becomes ineffective from wear. The MT16 is a better all around tire and lasts much longer. I still do use the S12 on the front. Nothing has worked better for me in that part of the bike.

Decent

This tire had great traction. I got two rides on the tire (the rear tire). The traction was epic, and it was superior to my previous tire by all means. However, within 15 minutes of my first race I got a pinch flat, and had to finish the rest of the race on a flat.

My "go to" tire

I race enduros and do some dual sports. I either ride soft sandy terrain (jersey Pine barens) or real rocky New England and Pennsylvania. There are better sand tires, and better rock tires but when I am going to be doing a few different runs I use these since they work well in both.

Put MT16 tires front and rear on my vintage Can Am MX1. Perfect for these Northeast conditions. Really hooks up and gets you in the direction you want to head. Love the vintage look and they seem to be holding up quite well. Will buy another set when needed. Best price and freakishly fast shipping from The Motorcycle Superstore.

MT 16 - Best Tire Hands Down

I race hare scrambles. This tire holds out better than any other I have used and works well in all conditions. I get 4 races on one tire and then use it for weekend rides when I am finished racing on it. Use a heavy duty tube and run 10 to 12 PSI!
