Leatt

Before the Leatt neck brace came along, neck braces were only for alleviating pain after devastating neck injuries. The Leatt brace introduced serious neck protection for sport riders on motorcycles, mountain bikes, ATVs, snowmobiles and other helmet-critical rides. After witnessing the death of a rider competing with his son, neurosurgeon Dr. Chris Leatt began neck brace designs with a team of physicians, surgeons, biomedical engineers and the BMW Accident Research Center. The first Leatt brace was sold in 2004. Leatt Corporation was incorporated in 2005 and remains headquartered in Durbanville, South Africa. The Leatt brace hit the market in 2006 and with support from critically injured rider David Bailey in 2007, demand spiked. The company has since introduced the Leatt chest protector as well. The Leatt brace is designed to prevent neck injuries caused by extreme head movement or spinal compression. Such injuries can be extremely hazardous and even result in paralysis or death. The Leatt brace uses a patented Alternative Load Path Technology to gently stop head motion in a crash and transfer impact from the neck and spine to the shoulders, chest and back. Leatt braces are lightweight and allow riders a wide range of movement. Constructed from incredibly sturdy and durable fiberglass-reinforced polyamide resin, most models also have padding for extra comfort and protection, and some include a carbon fiber matrix chassis. Leatt braces also work with most any chest protectors. The Leatt brace has already received many awards, including the Racer X 2007 product of the year, and reader vote for “Product of the Decade” through Motocross Action Magazine. World-class motocross riders relying on the Leatt neck brace for protection have included Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard, Kevin Windham, Broc Tickle, Blake Baggett, Justin Brayton and Andrew Short. Motorcycle Superstore carries a full selection of Leatt brace models and chest protectors here. So if you’re serious about your safety, pick out a Leatt brace to help keep you smiling after a wreck rather than managing pain wearing the other kind of neck brace.
