Shoei Noetech

Never spent so much on a helmet before. Then again never knew that a helmet can fit so well. After a month of breaking it in very happy. I have been riding a lot in 90 degree weather and can't believe I am wearing a full face helmet.Always wore a half helmet. Very happy with my purchase.

Great but not perfect

Have had Shoei for years because they fit my head shape best. Each year the interior is more plush and comfortable. The flip-up style is ideal for long rides as well as in the city when it's hot. Being able to lift the whole front piece at stoplights is a huge relief. The flip down sun visor is a major improvement. Can make on the fly adjustments for tunnels, shade, cloud, sun. Reduces eye fatigue, and safer than riding through glare or darkness because it's too much hassle to stop and apply or remove sunglasses. Would always want this feature on any helmet I buy in the future. Ventilation issues remain. The older versions had a little tab at the bottom of the visor that you could use to bump just a little crack of an opening to keep fogging under control during rain. It worked. Without that little tab, it's a constant battle to flip the visor up to clear it but that's too much exposure, close it and it fogs, etc. The stick-on anti-fog piece is too much trouble, and definitely reduces nighttime visibility so is not safe to use except during the day. Just too much hassle. The tab adjustments for ventilation don't stay put. The slider on the top of the helmet is always closing, as is the back tab. I finally taped them in place. I always want them open, even in cold weather. The one near the mouth is the only one I adjust a lot. Odd to hear such a range of comments about noise. Wonder if the variety of noise complaints has to do with individual windshield configuration in relation to this helmet style. Flip fronts are admittedly not as quiet as full coverage models, but I always wear earplugs, and this newer model seems noticeably more quiet than the earlier unit with earplugs in. Dunno how anyone rides without earplugs, whatever the helmet model. Why do that? Agree with those who feel the bucket is heavy. It is. But very stable in wind. And yes, it's very expensive.

Noisy and poor ventilation

This helmet is almost unusable during Winter due to misting, poor ventilation over the visor area. Yet it roars inside! Very noisy and no where as good as others. I would not have bought it if I had have known.

Very comfortable fit- a little noisy without earplugs - nice visor & airflow- built in sunshade allows you to leave sunglasses elsewhere- modular flip- up is handy for taking a drink while riding- Expensive but worth it.

Quality I've come to expect

Shoei helmets have for my wide head, been the most comfortable helmet I've ever bought. The features of this helmet like adequate ventilation and the drop-down sun shade are very useful and reasonable for the price. Very happy with it and will purchase another for the occasional passenger.

Neotec, a good helmet

Everyone knows Shoei makes good helmets, and the Neotec is no exception. I've had several HJC full face helmets before which always fit great, but they changed their fit/shape and a medium was no longer comfortable. Tried all the main brands, but only Arai and Shoei fit my narrow/oval noggin without producing hot spots quickly, with the Shoei feeling slightly more comfortable. Unfortunately Shoei doesn't offer the sunshield in their "lower" models to save you a couple hundred dollars, thus part of the reason for getting the Neotec. The sunshield works great, and is easy to operate once you get used to its location. The visor and shield are both very clear, and the visor 'locks' in every position securely and seals tightly. The top of the visor opening also works nicely to block overhead sun since it is bumped out slightly for the sunshield. Vents are easy to operate. The top vent flows plenty of air, but the chin vent could flow more. It does help with fogging issues along with the breathguard, but you definitely need the pin lock shield in cooler temps and higher humidity conditions. If the pin lock does start to fog up, just pop the visor to the first position and it clears almost instantly. A main reason for getting the Neotec, the modular shield. Makes it easy for taking on and off, nice for quick stops of fresh air. The wind curtain does the best job blocking road air and noise of any helmet I've had, in fact it seals off so well it almost makes the helmet feel heated in 30 degree temps. It locks securely and is easy to unlock and flip open. Noise, yes there is some, but it's not bad, and doesn't change much whether the visor is closed or cracked open. The odd thing is the helmet is quietest with the visor all the way open! So it seems the noise is coming from air flowing through the top vent cover, which also doesn't change much whether the vent is open or closed. Padding around the ears does a good job of keeping the air noise out of your ears and also allows for (sun)glasses to be worn without creating pressure points either over or behind the ears, a problem encountered with most glasses on my other helmets. I feel you do get what you pay for, though at this price I think it should come with the other thickness pads for a tailored fit, because how do you know without experimenting? If you can afford to spend this much on your safety, do it, you won't be disappointed, especially if you have an oval shaped head.

Shoei Neotec

As compared to my older Shoei TZ-R: quieter, more comfortable, more versatile, and better ventilation. Plus all the other features not included in the TZ-R. It's an outstanding helmet that operates flawlessly. Note to self: keep the front vent closed in rain/fog if anticipating need to use flip down sun shield. Otherwise can accumulate moisture on the shield.

Was expecting a lot less wind noise.

This is my first modular helmet. I was expecting it to be a lot quieter. The fit and appearance are good just wish it was less noisy especially for the price paid. I rode in my friends HJC and it was a lot quieter even with a Sena Bluetooth installed.

Great - But warm and heavy

The helmet is great looking, feels very safe and has great features. However, I feel its very heavy and warm, ventilation could definitely be improved. Also the size runs a bit large and replacement visors are expensive.

I wanted to love it--- Loved my Multitech

Bought to replace an aging XL Multitech. XL Neotech was too small, moved to XXL which fit better but the liner's plastic snaps dug into my head. Wasn't impressed with hinge quality either.

Almost Worth Every Penny

I had my Neotec "custom" fitted by a Shoei factory tech and it's by far the best helmet that I've owned in 30 years of riding. Went down a size to a medium, but exchanged with thinner 31mm cheek pads and it's a perfect fit. Comfortable all day long and the fit provides nearly sound proof. Aerodynamic and very little buffeting. Actually able to lower my wind screen a couple of inches now at top speeds. The pinlock shield insert also makes it nearly impossible to fog up as well. I replaced a HJC modular that I had for 5 years and was pretty happy with it, but there is no comparison with that and the Shoei Neotec. Like comparing apples and oranges. Expensive, but worth it.
