Launched in 1978 as a homemade shop in Pedro Araújo’s garage in Portugal, Polisport now employs 160 workers and sells molded plastics for bicycles, motorcycles and ATVs across 62 markets worldwide. In the ‘70s, Pedro and his friends raced for fun and were always damaging their bikes and sometimes themselves. Back then, getting new plastics was a huge challenge and a long wait, so Pedro worked one summer to earn a bucket of polyester resin so he could make his own plastics in his garage. Homemade mass production became a necessity before the bucket of resin would dry up, and soon there were 300 mudguards spread all over Pedro’s garage and garden. There was an immediate demand in local stores, the first orders were placed and Polisport was inaugurated.
Polisport began building parts for motorcycles, which eventually catapulted the company to becoming an international brand. With the production of its own molds and development of new technologies – such as the Durable Gloss Polypropylene for shiny, bright colors – Polisport has gone on to win awards from the International Metal Decorators Association for best injection mold part in 2008 and 2009 and best in-mold decoration durable product in 2009.
