Product Information

Dunlop American Elite Rear Tire

Since 1984, Harley’s have rolled out of the factory with Dunlop tires. Designed with Harley, for Harley, and crafted in the U.S.A., the new Dunlop American Elite is the recommended tire for any touring Harley made in 2009 or newer.

Multi tread construction places a durable compound in the middle, where we put most of our miles on. Side compounds are softer for greater grip when leaning the bike over. Additionally, the new tread pattern works well in both wet and dry road conditions, making the American Elite an all-season option.

Features:

  • Made, tested and designed in the U.S.A.
  • H rated for speeds up to 130 MPH
  • Available in blackwall, narrow whitewall and wide whitewall
  • 2008 and older models use Dunlop D407/408
  • Tread design provides even tread wear and quiet operation in all conditions, both wet and dry
  • Item # 30353
  • SKU #
  • Mfr. Part #

3rd set came in today

This is the 3rd set of American Elites i've had on my 2005 Road King I do a lot of riding and on this bike i just broke 120,000 miles. Two years ago I and 3 brothers rode from NY to Colorado and back using different routs both ways. We rode 7200 miles in 3 weeks and the whole ride was on back roads & secondary roads using no interstates. These tires were a dream. I've never run better tires . The first set went 18,000 miles and the set coming off now have 19,500 miles. Cant beet thes American Elites

Tires Feel Good So Far

We have an 2007 Soft Tail Custom with a 200/55/17 rear and a MH-90/21 on the front. We have ran a couple sets of the stock Dunlop's, a set of Pirelli Night Dragon's and a couple sets of Avon Cobra's. The Avon's and Pirelli,s cornered nice and rode nice. I never got more than 4500 miles out of any of those tires including the Dunlop's, riding 2up most of the time. These are supposed to give me better mileage, we will see. I chose these Dunlop Elites over trying the Michelin Commander II's because of the tire tread. The Michelin tread looked similar to the Avon's with not much tread in the center. I found the Avon's sliding on me more than I care for on occasion while braking. And yes, I use my front brake a lot along with the rear but at times if I got heavier on the rear, it would slide. I could be wrong on this because I have never ran the Michelin's but that is how they look to me. We have only been on one ride with the new tires so far. They feel a little rough on the bumps but I think they will break in OK. They seem to track real good. I never push new tires very hard on corners until they get broke in good. However, so far they feel very good and I think they will help with confidence in the corners latter on when I push them a little harder. So, the truth is, I can't really give a good complete review yet until we get more time on them.

American Elite rear tire

Very happy with the results. Received tire very fast. Within no time was riding safe again. Comfortable ride. Great experience all around. Would recommend to anyone. Will get back to you on the mileage, but if it is like everything else, should be good.

Excellent tire for heavy touring

22,000 miles again on second set (ok, might have been pushing it a bit, but they hold up is the point). Wear evenly, stay balanced, good traction, and last forever for a tire that is pushed hard on a FLTRX. Keep the tire aired up and you'll get no cupping on the front, and the rear tire just becomes flat like a car tire (that means you used up the fun and need to buy more). Was impressed with ME880s, this is even better.

First set of Dunlop Elite

This is my first set(front & rear)of Dunlop Elite. The front tire I have no issues with and seems to a great tire. The rear tire stability on the other hand leaves something to be desired. As soon as the tires were installed I could tell something just didn't feel right. When cornering the rear felt like it was riding on a ridge ( best way to describe it ) and coming out of a curve took just a little more effort. Going down the highway at around 60mph the rear end dances around. I checked the rear alignment and it checked out perfect. Since I've put some miles on these the cornering issue has gone away. The rear dancing around has eased some but is still noticeable. I'm hoping this will disappear with more miles. Will I buy it again ? Not sure, only time will tell. At first I wished I had stayed with the 4's .

REALLY GREAT TIRE

Was going back with Michelin but with 20k on front and back, don't think I need to change brands. With out a doubt the best tire I have ever run.

2nd set performance

So this is my 2nd set of Elite tires. This set was put on 1000 miles before my trip, which was 22 days and 12017 miles around America. Pulling a Bushtec trailer, 1 up, all types of roads, temps from 40 to 105 degrees. 300 miles from home the rear tire got squirely, wear consistent, pressure good but tire wear was at the wear bars. 1st set got around 14000 miles. For me these tires wear out about the same as the 888's, commander IIs. I ride 20k+ in a year. Don't know how riders are getting over 20k on a rear tire, all the riders I have talked to that run similar tires mentioned are getting same mileage as I get.. My ride is 900 lbs. + 180 for the rider + stuff. Good tire did order same tire again from MC Superstore

Best Tire So Far

I just wore out my second Elite on my 12 Street Glide. My ole lady and I took a trip went from San Diego to Main for a lobster lunch By way of Canada. 500 miles Highway the rest was back roads. We rode 9320 miles door to door in five weeks with a new Elite. We were loaded to the gills with our Camping gear 4 man tent cooking gear and every open space my ole lady could find she fit more clothes. Going over Bear Tooth Pass we was scrapping running boards on most curves. I had no problems with my tires even got another 9K miles on the rear when I got home. I get a little cupping on the side tread as they wear I can hear when I lean but other than that I would recommend this, Oh and I don't recommend for riders who only use there rear brakes as the rubber is a little harder so tire will slide easier than stock Dunlop. I am ordering another right now.
