The mileage these tires provide is incredible. Same with grip, rain or shine. Only tire I'll put on my Sporty. If you have any "chicken strips" on your tires, you really haven't explored the amount of grip these Dunlops provide. Looking for more mileage out of a motorcycle tire? GOOD LUCK!! Great replacment

Great replacement tire. Put it on and rode like crazy. Handles better that the original. Dry surface, great traction, got a good lean. Rain, even better than i thought. I have been putting these tires on my 96 WideGlide since new and will continue to put them on. Will have about 12,000 miles on the rear, so I don't consider that bad at all. You can't have this kind of traction and get more miles from the tire. I don't baby them either ride fairly hard.

I live in wet Washington and these tires perform well wet or dry, I do not know what people expect mileage wise from these tires, but I put a little over 13,000 miles on the one I just replaced it sure beats 4,000 miles for a crotch rocket tire replacement, I have not had any issues other than I wish Dunlop would make a white wall version of this tire 150/80B16 (D401) so I could complete my '59 retro look to my 08 Heritage Softail Classic, But I really want to thank Motorcycle-Superstore.com for saving me all kinds of money for the same OEM tire from Harley-Davidson, it really upsets me when they charge $68.00 plus not to mention tax more at a store that is only 500 yards from my house, plus you guys had it to my home in 3 days thank you very much.

Dunlop rear tire

I tried a different tire the last time I put tires on my soft-tail but this time I went back to the Dunlop because I didn't really feel comfortable (safe?) on the tires I had on before when on the twisties. Purchased for my wife’s 1990 H.D.Softail Custom. I had the bike at my son’s home to do some other repairs on his mom's bike. I had the tire sent to my son’s home some two hours away, which worked out great. Her bike rode great. Good soft traction. I ordered my Harley-Davidson Dunlop D401 150/80 HB16 tire on Monday and received it on Thursday. Now that is service with a smile. I checked J&P Cycles for the same product and it was going to cost me for shipping and the tire was not going to get to me in until 7-10 business days. I laughed and went right over to the Motorcycle Superstore web site, called the ordering desk and gave her my info and product number and the tire was at my door 9:55 am in 3 days. I ordered a Batwing fairing, windshield, molding and hardware for my 08 Honda Shadow Aero last year from The Superstore. Great tire

This is my 3rd rear Dunlap tire. I have 32,000 miles on a '06 Heritage. Just did a 7,100 mile run through 21 states and the tire performed fantastic, as it had in the past. I ran in the desert, mountains, driving rain and even snow over Bighorn Mountain and the tire gripped the road the whole time. I would not use a different tire. Plus it's good for 10,000 - 11,000 miles. Great tire & a good price too.

I got slightly over 10K miles from the HD OEM on my FLSTSCI. Since the front OEM still has some 2K left of tread left, I chose to keep a matching set by replacing only the rear. Overall, the D401 offers good value and handling under normal conditions. There are better aftermarket brands, but Dunlop was a good fit for both the bike and my budget. Check the tire pressure on your skins regularly and you'll keep the shiny side up.

I use Nitrogen in my tires and realized I hadn't replaced the rear in over a year. Performance is excellent though in wet, confidence isn't as high as I would like. This tire excedes the ability of the bike in cornering and haven't ever locked up the front in panic stops. I run the same on the front and haven't replaced that one in two years. I had a valve stem problem on my sporty. I rode 12 miles on a flat tire at slow speeds. The sidewall held and was able to repair stem without tire or rim damage. Try that with a cheap cruiser tire. Dunlop d401 H_D series tire

This tire is the exact stock tire replacement. I got 10,000 miles out of my last one and would expect the same from this. For most of my cycling this tire is fine except for tread life, I wish it would last longer. You get half the tire life used up per oil change. As the tire wears the cornering starts to go away because you have to push the bike past the ridge that forms as the tire wears in the center. Overall a very good tire for me and a whole lot better than some I’ve used.

Tread life

I have an 08 Heritage Soft tail Classic. I have found these tires are good for right at 5K miles. They handle great in dry and wet conditions and ride smooth. My ride is coming up on 10K miles now and the back tire is looking really thin. I replaced the original at about 4,800 miles. I weigh about 225 lbs and usually have my woman on the back of the bike and she weighs 100lbs soaking wet. Like the tire but think the tread life is a little short.

Dunlop 401Tire Wear

One year and 7300 miles on the Dunlop 401. Although I’ve turned nearly 12k miles on other Dunlop 401s I expect to change this tire at 8000 miles. Uniform tread wear is apparent and handling is still crisp in the twisties. I will definitely continue to use this tire on the ’03 Fat Boy.

The Only tire for my Harley

I have found that running a tire made for a certain motorcycle, designed for that motorcycle, is hard if not impossible to beat. The two most important things on my bike are 1.) The oil in the engine, 2.) The rubber on the ground. You cannot afford to slid-by on these two things. I gave some other brands a shot, but now I run nothing but Dunlop. I have to say that I was very pleased with your prompt delivery of this tire. I ordered it the 1st of the week and had it in time to get it installed on Friday of that week. I have a 2003 Sportster with the original Dunlops on. I have 14k of touring, and street riding and have had no issues. A few months age I found a small crack in the rear tire, so time to replace it. I had really good handling with this tire. A few times I got the rearend sliding, this tire outperformed getting me back upright. Upon talking with friends, it seems typical for 10k to 15k to be about the maximum for any cycle tire. A friend only got 8K from his Metzlers. I am sure riding style, road heat, etc. all have alot to do with the life of your rubber.

Exactly as Advertised

Tire is *exact* replacement for the one that originally was on the motorcycle. I am sad that the best mileage I can get from a modern motorcycle tire is only 12,000 miles though. We don't get much rain here, but the little we get it works fine - no confidence loss at all. Tire can easily handle the cornering capabilities of a H-D FLSTC Softail, as the bike reaches its limits long before the tire does. No nibble throughout its life and ride was great to the end.

I ride a lowered, punched out, camed, & precession-mapped Fat Boy. The bike is I think about 675 lbs dry. I weigh 180lbs. It came stock with a 402 MT90B16. I think that's a 130\16. I did some work and went wider with the 150. All is good but, for the wear. 32,500 miles on the bike and I'm thinking 2nd maybe 3rd front to about a dozen rears. OK... I ride the piss outta it. So, I got no complaints. Thanks Motorcycle Superstore for makin' every 3000 miles of pure fun that much more affordable. :D

Good Tire. Fresh rubber that hasn't been on the rack for several years. Great price and delivery was surprisingly fast. Aligned the balance dot with the valve stem and balanced the wheel assembly with 3/4 ounces. Smooth ride for my 2004 FLSTC. Had to rate wet traction and tread life as 3 since I haven't ridden in a lot of water yet and only have about 700 miles on the tire. The Dunlop replaced my first rear tire. This Dunlop was identical to the OEM tire. I love this tire for summer and spring riding. Once the tread drops below .3" tread-depth, I experienced some hydro-planning during a storm on two occasions! 5k miles tread life is a bit anemic. No burnouts or racing yet the tread was down to .2" after just 4k miles!

Although this tire is not the best possible performance tire, it certainly is the longest lasting. The stability, cornering and traction are not bad, though I am sure they can be improved. The compromise usually comes at the price of tread life. This is the 4th rear tire on this particular 2004 Sportster (42K miles). They last about 12K-15K miles, which is a lot for a rear tire. Performance is pretty good. After all, Harley Davidson is a cruiser and not a sports bike.

However, I've have had very good luck with Dunlop tires in the past, that's why I ordered this one. I do wish that MC Superstore carried a 21" D401 front tire! Would like to match my tires. Currently running an Avon on front.

The Dunlop 401 H.D.Series is the tire the bike came with. It only lasted 10,000 miles. But in its defense I ride double most of the time so if it is only made to last that long it is a fine tire.

First new tire

So I've only had it on for about 500 miles but its great and have not had it in the rain yet (I've been lucky!!). I can't rate on tread life since I only have 500 miles on it so far. The ordering process was great saved me about $90 and came a day early so not a complaint at all. I will definitely be ordering from here for all my heritage softail needs.

The tire in question handles great for the first 3000 miles then every time you take a corner with it you have to watch your lean angle. The mileage from this tire sucks.

Tread Life Could Be Much Better

Have had these tires on my 2008 Harley-Davidson FXSTB Night Train since I bought it. Tread life averages 7K to 8K miles. Other than that, the tires seem to be stable tires with good cornering ability. Dry and wet traction could be better IF the tread life was longer. Have replaced the rear three times this year alone, and I DO NOT abuse these tires (no burnouts, skidding, etc.)

Review of a Dunlop rear tire

When I read the reviews on a number of tires I was shocked at how little information was given about the bikes and conditions a person drove under; so here it goes. I ride a ‘06 Yamaha Roadstar 1700 and have only been riding moderately for three years, often with my wife. However, she has been unable to ride since I got the new tire, so that makes one rider. I mostly ride to and from work and don’t often ride hard (got to burn the bugs off every once in a while though). I left the tread life blank because I don’t have enough miles on it to tell how well it might last; and I also left wet traction blank because I really don’t care to ride in the rain and avoid it like the plague. So far it has been a really good tire. I don’t think it’s any better than the Bridgestone that came stock, but the tread life will tell. It has been a smooth ride and very responsive to all my demands. I would recommend it at this point. Safe and happy riding to all.

OEM Tire

I got 8000 miles out of the original factory tire; told that was better than normal. Wet roads requires extra care when cornering after 4000 miles. Also, the tire may feel like its going flat and mushy when its properly inflated. Mine is on a Heritage Softail.

I was impressed with Motorcycle Superstores delivery time. I have been in contact with Dunlop and this tire is the best that they are willing to build for the Softails. They aren't willing to build a set of MT seires Tires for the Softails. I will need both and front and rear tire next time. I am thinking that I will be changing brands looking for better Tread Life.

These tires don’t handle all that well and tread life isn't what it should be. You would think with all the great tires out there that Harley would pick a better OEM tire. I have had many sets but will not buy them again, overpriced and underperforming just because it says HD on the sidewall.

2005 HD Dyna

Put on a 150/80/16 just before a road trip this past June. 6K highway miles later the tire was bald (1/32). Shortest tread life out of any tire I've ever run. Don't waste your money.
