In order to have a separate control for the chaps and the jacket liner you need to have the splitter. Otherwise one control. Sometimes I want the chaps a little warmer than the jacket liner. The only way to do this is with a splitter. I wish it was part of the package when you order both a liner and chaps.

Buying the v splitter allows you to independently adjust and seemingly give more power to a jacket/chap combo.
