It's nice, but...

This is a great looking helmet, but there was some kind of film on the inside of the visor (anti-fog?) that started to come off immediately. It was very hard to see through the area were the film had started to come off, and even harder to remove the rest of the film. The fit of the helmet is good, although I wouldn't want it any tighter in the cheek area. It also wants to pull your head back at highway speeds, if you are running without a windshield.

Love it

Love the look. First impression right of the bat, the Icon Variant helmet in all black looks freakin' gorgeous. I get compliments from other riders @ stops, and people just walking by. This helmet, many say isn't a great combination with my kawi zx10r but I am not a fast, showing off, rider. More like; me and her ( the helmet) getting a nice ride, and coming from wherever we go, and make sure we both come home. This helmet is a nice reminder in the hwy, she will let you know don't go to fast, I'll let you know! She has stopped me from going fast. Everything is well done, give her attention too, a nice clean up now and then, check on your helmet regularly. Your life depends on it!

Don't change out the Visor!

I love this Helmet. I removed the screws to replace the stock visor with a tinted Icon visor. I can't get the screws back in! As another person said, they screw in a little bit then stop.

Not so happy

The rubber trim around the bottom of the helmet is shrinking and pulling away from the helmet . The ventilation is not the best . Too heavy . Catches the wind . Used tow summers .

I would not buy one again

It sure looks cool but it nearly rips me off my bike if I get above highway speeds. Also at highway speeds if I turn my head left or right the visors inability to cut through the air will completely off balance my upper body. The replacement visors are not cheap.

Great fit added bonus is the look, cheap screws

Love the fit of this helmet and the airflow is awesome. No impediments visually. The look is an added bonus. At about 65mph the wind resistance of the visor tends to cause my head to tilt a bit but I'm mostly a forest road, fire road, urban riding guy. Only gripe is that the screws that secure the shield are cheap, thus the 4 star cost benefit. Be careful not to tighten them too much and use the supplied helmet key as they strip very easily.

ICON Variant Fail

So I have 2 of these helmets. Both are about 18 months old. One gets worn a lot and one is my wife's and she does not ride as much as I do. My helmet which is a Battlescar after 4 months the external molding started coming off. It's the glue they used to attach the molding with that fails in the heat of summer riding. Called and emailed ICON several times and said they would send a repair kit but never do. I use Gorilla glue on it periodically to re-attach the molding. Just last week the whole rubber mouth area of the helmet started coming off and once it starts it goes bad quick if you do not do something about it. Several other have had the same thing happen to theirs. ICON never took care of the problem. No the wifes helmet if fine but she rides maybe 3k miles a years and I do 20K.

MasterChief

Had it about a year and I love it. Wore only Arai for 20 years. It definitely makes a statement. Not a touring helmet. Strictly urban assault for me.

bad ass

Fantastic fit and finish, bought with accessory Gold Shield. Shield installed easy enough per instructions and supplied tool. Fog free, good ventilation and bad ass looks.

Icon did a great job with this one.

This is a very cool helmet both in looks and in air flow. I have been using it in the AZ heat (upper 80's) and so far so good. Ventilation is excellent without much wind noise. The biggest thing I like about the helmet is the fit. Its snug where it needs to be (the cheeks) and open where it doesn't (the ears). For me this helmet is an A+.

Outstanding Helmet

Recently purchased the Variant and have worn it on several rides, about 500 miles on it now. Excellent air flow. My eyes do not dry out like they do in my SHOEI. Sunglasses fit well. I have not changed out the visor. Pads can be washed easily. Replacement parts readily available. Great buy!

Great helmet but....

I've had it for a year now and the poor thing is falling apart. First I was complaining about the wind beating my head too much but after only a year the plastics are falling off. The bottom layer of plastic that runs around the bottom peeled off and now the rear of the visor is peeling. Cool helmet but buy a brand that actually puts out good solid product.

Great bad ass looking.

Greatest looking helmet ever owned. A cross between aircraft fighter and Halo helmet. Pros: Perfect fit, very comfy, light, good vision and excellent adjustable ventilation. Cons: Noisy at high speed, catch the wind quite a lot above speed of 60mph (90km/h).

Looks good, but airflow sucks!

The visor gives it a good look but if you plan to ride on the freeway there is a lot of pull when you're switching lanes and in a case where you have to make a quick decision, don't think you want something else to consider while trying to dodge cars. But again if you want a cool helmet for the city, doing under 55 then it looks good. Cheers.

Heads up!

Everything about the helmet was sick! Expect not being aware of how much of a pain replacing the shields is! If you live in an area where it is required by law to have a clear shield at night, then the hassle is not worth it! If you have two helmets though and this is for daytime only, go for it!
