Hiprotec Comfort Armor

Very thin and comfortable. Unless you want shaped rigid armor for shoulder or knee, this is the way to go.

LARGE DOESN'T FIT THE HT OVERPANT HIP POCKET

I ordered the large as additional hip protection but it is not the right size. You probably want to order the medium for the hips in the HT Overpants.

Extremely comfortable

This stuff is very flexible and relatively thin, so you can't even tell it is in the jacket. Haven't crashed yet and don't intend to, so the claims that it stiffens up under impact won't be reported by me (hopefully). A bit expensive, but worth it if the protection stands up to the manufacturer's claims.

Armor Review

When I received this armor I was surprised by its flexibility. I've been intending on buying armor for my leather jacket for several years and finally broke down and did it. Each component fit well within the shoulder and elbow armor pockets of my jacket. It took me a little time to decide exactly how I wanted it oriented since there is no documentation provided with this product. Once in place I did notice a minor issue with it folding over on itself until I was able to do final adjustments of its placement. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this product and definitely have a little more protection than I did before.

Cool technology... but tests my faith.

Very cool technology; soft pliable rubber when slowly mushed, instantly stiffens up to become stiff, impact absorbing rubber when struck with a direct force. Rather than replace the soft open cell foam in the knees of my HT Air pants, I slipped this armor in front of the foam, so they can work in concert. With the self-stiffening properties, this stuff meets CE armor certification, but yet is very thin... just a few millimeters thick. I can feel it working in my hands, but it goes against conventional wisdom that something so thin can provide such protection. I understand the technology, but my instinct is to want a thicker piece of rubber anyway. I have yet to test it in a crash situation... and hope I never get to. But I feel better its there than not if I do.

Bought for Mesh-Tex 2.0 hips

I bought these to upgrade the hip armor in my new Firstgear Mesh-Tex 2.0. I bought the armor when I ordered the pants. The armor is nicely made, but does not have any means of attachment, so it must fit snugly in a armor pocket that will hold its shape, in this application I had to leave the original hip armor in place to help hold the Hiprotec in position.

Not so great

These are just plain floppy--and heavy to boot. Warning: they will not stand up in the armor pocket. They will fold like a pair of twos. You have to strap them in (I used slip ties) using the little holes in the armor. Additionally, these simply do not feel very protective. I have dropped to my knees, and it's better than nothing, but not nearly as good as form fitting knee armor. So, keep that in mind when buying. I'm thinking about getting some foam padding to bolster these. By the way, I have First Gear pants--the pants are not the problem.
