Dunlop Geomax MX51 Intermediate Terrain Rear Tire

The most commonly used tire in professional Supercross and Motocross, the Dunlop MX51 is the intermediate tire of choice. Featuring chiseled shoulder blocks and a more open center tread area, the MX51 penetrates through both soft and hard surfaces to give consistent grip and a compliant feel in ever changing track conditions.

    Features:
    • New design profile with “more volume” for excellent cornering grip and improved ride comfort
    • Recessed biting edges for greater cornering traction and rut performance in a wider range of terrain conditions
    • Tie-bar for increased block stiffness and recess design for improved medium-to-harder terrain performance
    • Unique “cross stitch” shoulder block distribution for better traction and grip in medium-to-medium-hard conditions
    • Larger radius block base for strength and increased durability

    Outstanding

I ride vintage MX and the majority of our tracks are a bit "easier" than modern MX tracks and often the tracks are grass, where traction is premium. These Geomax MX-51 tires bite into that surface and give outstanding performance. The only bad thing is they're being replaced, and the new ones don't come in 18 inch sizes- which most vintage bikes are. Now I have to go looking for something else.

    Not for the Rockies

Great traction, handling and cornering. However, decomposed granite and rocks of the Pikes Peak region ate the MX51 in a few days of riding. Best used on tracks or softer soil conditions.

A great all around off road tire

The MX 51 tracks well, grabs well and corners well. I'd buy one again for my DRZ400 and more than likely will.

    MX51 Geomax Intermediate Rear Tire

Like these tires. I do a mix of trail, hill climbing and track riding and these tires do well in all conditions. I dont have the chunking that you get on some tires where you catch a knob on a rock and tear it off. I run 450 & 505 bikes so I get a lot of wheel spin and they last as well as any others.

    Wears too fast

Works great when new but after one ride the performance drops significantly. Not a lot of bang for the buck.

    Won't run anything else!

I have ran the MX 51s and the MX 31s for several years on some very tough tracks. With excellent traction on all terrains and tread life. Dunlop tires are my number one pick.

    Dunlop Geomax Tires

My sons race motocross and we go through lots of tires. We like the Dunlop Geomax tires alot. They grip well and hold up. They race on tracks with lots of rocks and they chew through tires. We have had other tires where we start breaking off a lot of the knobs, or cracking the knobs on the tire. This does not happen with the Dunlops and we always reverse the rear tire after it wears in one direction to get a bit more life out of it.
