Shinko 700 Series Dual Sport Rear Tire

Designed with what Shinko calls a 60% street / 40% dirt tread pattern, the 700 Series comes as a nice choice for the primarily road based adventure and dual sport rider. And yet with the deep knob design, the 700 Series rear tire can still dig in and bite on gravel and dirt.

Good dual purpose tire

I have been running these tires on a few of my 600cc thumpers. They are a really good tire for mild offroad and daily street/gravel use , basic general purpose usage. Good traction in dry or wet and they are my go-to tires on my winter rims for on snow and ice (I sipe/cut thin grooves in them for even better bite) for daily commuting all winter. Tread life is average , 3000-4500 miles on the rear(cutting for winter looses mileage) , they do cup some since the tread is a pretty soft compound , which is what gives them such great traction, so a trade off. Not for mud or wet loom , will fill up and spin .

Holds together, fair mileage, low cost.

I am on about my 3rd one of these for the rear of my dr650. I ride hard on the throttle, corner aggressive, ride about 10% gravel, and have a lot of cargo...I'm 250lbs and I have soft saddle bags and a top bag, almost always full of riding gear and a full tool roll. I get about 3500 miles out of a rear tire. Wish it was more but for the price, aggressive tread, and heavy weight and heavy throttle, it's probably not fair to ask for more. I mount the tires myself with 3 steel spoons, these mount easily so that's a plus. I run it on the front too, and like all tires I've used, the front tire cups badly enough to need replaced before it wears out. It causes a wobble at interstate speed once it is cupped. It starts around 4000-5000 miles, but the front tire will go 8000 miles if you want to put up with it. For the price, I just throw it away at 5000 miles.

Great Tire for the $

Have used these tires for over 3 years now. On my 3rd set . On Road & Cornering are great . Dry and Intermediate terrain are good . Loose pack and Sand are marginal at best . Tire has held up very well . Mileage 4k+ Rear and 8+ Front . Best I have experienced for the versatility and the $. I have over 30Yrs Riding , 650l,600r,525exc & Valk Interstate.

Works pretty good on dirt/gravel roads. I bought the 700 because I wanted a little smoother ride than the knobbies I had before. I like it. They're brand new, so no opinion about tread life. haven't had them on wet pavement yet either.

Shinko 700 Dual Sport

Have a pair of 700 Shinko's on a DR 650 with about 500 miles now. So far they are great on the pavement and dirt roads. Also put 75 miles on in heavy rain with no problems. Seem to be a great tire for the money.

I went from a Shinko 700 to a Kenda 270 rear tire and then went back to the 700. It's a much better tire for me. Stability and cornering and mileage are all superior. On sharp mountain corners the Kenda walked sideways. A little spooky. The 700 holds it's ground. Mileage on the rear is 5-6 thousand.

it's ok if you're on a budget.

With it I can ride a wheelie and drift sideways! It's very soft. If you ride hard onroad it wears fast. It does get decent traction off road though.

XR650L rear lasted 4600 miles

The Shinko 700 4.80 x 18 tire I put on the rear of my XR650L last summer, I rode it 28 psi, I'd say 85% road, 15% gravel road. It handles good on the road and not too bad in the dirt, it's no Knobby but there is traction. I had no problems on the fire roads and single track, only time it got wet was creek crossings so don't know too much about the wet traction, that's why the low score there. Lasted 4,600 miles on the back of my XRL, I tried the Shinko 2400 Golden Boy 5.10 x 18 to replace it with just to get the extra size, all in all a great tire for the money. MCSS always does right by me.

Capable Tire - Fast Wear

I bought this tire for my Suzuki DR650 and thought it was a very capable tire as I rode some very extreme conditions with it- was well as a daily commuter too. The 700 performed well in all conditions, but felt its worst on gravel surface. Not sure why but always felt it was on the verge of sliding out from under me. The tire didn't make the full riding season (March 15 - Nov 15) and while not babying the tire I didn't consider myself abusive to it either. Being my first Dual Sport bike I imagined I would do more off road travels vs. highway miles, but found myself with a considerable amount of time daily commuting with the bike so that may also be a factor. I replaced it with a Shinko 705 which I feel greatly improved the handling on asphalt vs the 700. Not sure if I would buy this again unless my needs changed. Its a very capable tire but didn't handle regular commuting.

3,500 miles and still going

The Shinko 700 is not a great on or off road tire, but it is good on AND off the road. Off road it has decent traction but not like the BFG trailwing it replaced, I have 3500 miles on the back tire and it's just starting to show the wear indicators. It might be a few hundred more miles before I replace it, I liked it so much I got a front tire to match.

Second rear 700 after nearly 3000m on the first, not bad for such an aggressive tire. Have not had much rain, but they worked well in the little rain we had.

Shinko 700 rear tire XR650L

I got this bike last year and have put 7000 miles on it. When I first needed a tire I got a Bridgestone Trailwing, it had excellent off road traction but only lasted 300 miles, I've got 1000 miles on the Shinko and still 10/32" tread remaining in the center of the tire. The on road performance is great, sticks like glue, off road however feels a little sketchy, maybe because I am not used to it yet, wet traction I gave a 4 but really havent rode in the wet yet, overall a good value.

This is a great tire got 6000 miles out of it. I ride a KLR 250. I used it mostly street. It will handle 70mph with no vibration.

I have only had this on the bike, a 2006 Honda XR 650 L, for about a month. I gave it straight '4's, but that is its rating "so far". I am quite pleased with it at this point, having done some woods riding and desert riding, as well as pavement. It does everything expected of it so far. Have not had any wet pavement riding yet. I tried this tire for it's economy. It looks great, and so far is proving to be the best choice of many tires that this bike has had.
