Good price, good tire, slight out of round issue.

Good price, good tire. I commute about 70% on road and 30% off road. The main reason I have the bike though is for riding off road. This tire is good for this. The tire I received was not quite round on one side. There is about an 1/8 of an inch difference in an area about six inches long. It does not seem to affect the performance much. I mention this with the intention of providing constructive criticism to the manufacturer and distributor.

Best tire for the money.

This is my second rear tire of this brand. For the price I paid, this tire does everything I need it to. I am a fair weather rider who does street duty to light offroad. No mud riding so no comment on that. Sticks ok on pavement and ok in the dirt. Not the best but not the worst...

best value

I've used these for a few years and have great success with them. Can't think of a reason to try anything else.

Better than Dunlop 750 on KLR

My mistake in running front tire low on gravel and not re-inflating on highway. Worn out prematurely on front at 8000 miles where I normally get 14000. Other wise good running tire for 80 on road 20 off road.

Can't beat it for the money

I have over 4,000 miles on my first set. Front tire is still in great shape. I can probably get another 1000 miles out of the rear. They grip very well on the asphalt. Surprisingly well. They also do a good job on gravel and dirt roads. They're not a full knobby and I didn't expect them to be. I've had no trouble with chunking of the knobs. I run 24/28psi front/back on the street and then lower to 18/18 on gravel and dirt. I often forget to air them up on the way home, and they do just fine. Until I need I more aggressive dirt tire, these will be my go-to tires for the DR650.

Could be great, but it's junk

Initially I loved how these tires performed. They gripped well on about all surfaces, but within a few hundred miles they were falling apart with over a dozen knobs completely chunking off going down the road. That's a shame really because their performance was great, but a tire that won't last more than a couple hundred miles without falling apart is worthless to me.

Good buy

Good price point, good traction for the amount of on/off road that I do (70%on 30%off). Most of my off road is dirt/gravel roads and two-tracks. They seem to have good grip on dry pavement, haven't had them out in the rain yet.

Didn't last

I had no problem with this tire other than it didn't last long. I ride a Triumph Street Triple R and use it mostly for touring. I don't remember why I got this tire (must have been really cheap) because I normally use ContiMotions. I have gotten over 14K on the Conti's and almost alwayd over 7K. These were about gone at 5,200. I probably could have gotten a few more mile (no steel showing) but I was on a trip and didn't want to caught in the middle of nowhere with a tire out.

Great tire for the price

Just put the second tire on the rear of my KLR. First one lasted about 4,500 miles and probably could have squeezed another thousand out of it. Front is still going strong. For cruising forest service and 4x4 roads this tire rocks. As long as Shinko keeps making this tire at a good price I'll keep buying it.

Shinko 244 Rear Tire

Many have reported issues with this tire, especially with chunking of lugs, but after about 1,300+ miles on them now, many of it highway at 70+ mph, and some dirt/gravel roads, I must say I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. This tire has ridiculous grip on the road and on a trip to Red River, NM, I was able to carve out the mountain twists and turns with confidence and could easily have dragged the pegs. Excellent wear pattern thus far. Inflated to 27 psi.

Some of the best all around rubber out there.........

As far as dual sport riding goes, where it is not practical to run special app tires, the 244's are the best that I've found for a combination on/off road tire but I would not consider them for the speeds encountered with a heavy loaded large adventure bike. Some have noted problems with tread block separation or cracking but I myself have never had a single instance of even a crack and I'm not gentle to them off road. Generally, the coarser the tread, the lower the speed rating on tires and a "P" rating or top speed of 84 mph is about tops in this tire so I wonder if some aren't promoting failure from excessive speed? It's just a thought. My experience with wear on the several rears I've went through has been at least as good as any other tire I've tried. Actually, I would rate wear at better than most. Wear is so dependent upon so many variables from rider to rider that I wouldn't try to put a mileage figure on them. They run well on the highway at highway speeds and while you can hear them, they are not what I would call noisy but you can hear the knobs smacking the pavement and feel slight vibration from the same. Off road, traction has never been an issue for me but may be for those living in regions where there is a lot of mud. But, if you have a tire that's a mudder, it probably isn't runnable on the street. Mud is one of the special apps I was speaking of earlier. I intend to continue to run them on my three dual sports so long as they remain cost effective. And, when you can re-shoe your bike for under a hundred dollars, I call that cost effective.

Awesome tire!

I put these on for the occasional commute and even more occasional fire road adventure. Wear seems excellent after 1,000 miles of both on and off road. Best price per (s)mile in this category. Will buy these again!

Great Tires

I have these on the front and rear and they are quite impressive. They are mounted on a XR650L. The front has been on for about 500 miles and is wearing very little. The rear has about 200 on it. The riding I do is mostly gravel roads and black top. They grip the gravel amazingly well and on the pavement they also perform great, a superb tire.

Outstanding on road and gravel

Just put 400 miles on these in the Northern Ga. mountains running FS roads, trails and paved country roads. In gravel, both loose and packed they were great! Tires did great even running 21psi front and 26psi rear. I was most impressed on the pavement.

Great Tire off and on-road

I put this on the front of my TW200 and it grabs off-road and in gravel well. It is a soft compound so it rides nice on the pavement. Too early to tell (only 1,000 miles) how it will wear long term. So far, I could not be happier.
