Shinko 244 Golden Boy

I needed a new front tire on my Yamaha XT225, and the selection of 2.75-21 tires is not what it used to be. Shinko still makes this size and this model is a reasonable match to the rear tire I have on the bike. The tire installed fine and rides like it is supposed to. I can't attest to longevity, but I am entertained by the name molded into the sidewall: Golden Boy. Great name for a tire. I can't wait to ride on a really rough track so I can report how well the Golden Boy takes a pounding.

Excellent tire for the money

I just ordered my third set of the Shinko 244's. These tires are really good on the road, offroad and ok in the mud. My first set I got over 8000 miles out of on my ttr250 - probably could have gotten another few thousand. I have two bikes and these are on both now. Bought these originally because of all the good reviews people gave them. These are a solid performer.

Long life, good traction

I read a lot of reviews on tires and came across these Shinko 244's. I found most reviews stated high mileage and good traction, not bad. Also, they were the least expensive tires, sometimes more than half the price of well known brands. I bought a pair of Shinko 244's and pushed them far beyond and had no problems. 17k out of the front and 19k out of the rear. Just bought another set. They work great and you can't beat the price.

New Tires

My wife actually bought these for her KLX250 and I have not had the opportunity to put them on yet. I believe she will love them. She has painted rims and I don't want to bang them up when I change the tires out so I have been researching a more aesthetically effective way. She does mostly on road riding back and forth to work but occasionally we will take them off road. Her current tire is not the least bit good for that. When she saw these tires online she was all about getting them. The price was a big factor as well.

Good tire for the money

This is a best bang for your buck, kind of tire. It handles great on the road, and well on gravel/dirt roads. If you are going through mud, or loose dirt it slips very easily. I've put 600 miles on it on my 06 DR650 and I am happy with it overall. I'd recommend it.

Good price, good tire, slight out of round issue.

Good price, good tire. I commute about 70% on road and 30% off road. The main reason I have the bike though is for riding off road. This tire is good for this. The tire I received was not quite round on one side. There is about an 1/8 of an inch difference in an area about six inches long. It does not seem to affect the performance much. I mention this with the intention of providing constructive criticism to the manufacturer and distributor.

Best tire for the money.

This is my second rear tire of this brand. For the price I paid, this tire does everything I need it to. I am a fair weather rider who does street duty to light offroad. No mud riding so no comment on that. Sticks ok on pavement and ok in the dirt. Not the best but not the worst...

best value

I've used these for a few years and have great success with them. Can't think of a reason to try anything else.

Better than Dunlop 750 on KLR

My mistake in running front tire low on gravel and not re-inflating on highway. Worn out prematurely on front at 8000 miles where I normally get 14000. Other wise good running tire for 80 on road 20 off road.

Can't beat it for the money

I have over 4,000 miles on my first set. Front tire is still in great shape. I can probably get another 1000 miles out of the rear. They grip very well on the asphalt. Surprisingly well. They also do a good job on gravel and dirt roads. They're not a full knobby and I didn't expect them to be. I've had no trouble with chunking of the knobs. I run 24/28psi front/back on the street and then lower to 18/18 on gravel and dirt. I often forget to air them up on the way home, and they do just fine. Until I need I more aggressive dirt tire, these will be my go-to tires for the DR650.

Could be great, but it's junk

Initially I loved how these tires performed. They gripped well on about all surfaces, but within a few hundred miles they were falling apart with over a dozen knobs completely chunking off going down the road. That's a shame really because their performance was great, but a tire that won't last more than a couple hundred miles without falling apart is worthless to me.

Good buy

Good price point, good traction for the amount of on/off road that I do (70%on 30%off). Most of my off road is dirt/gravel roads and two-tracks. They seem to have good grip on dry pavement, haven't had them out in the rain yet.

Didn't last

I had no problem with this tire other than it didn't last long. I ride a Triumph Street Triple R and use it mostly for touring. I don't remember why I got this tire (must have been really cheap) because I normally use ContiMotions. I have gotten over 14K on the Conti's and almost alwayd over 7K. These were about gone at 5,200. I probably could have gotten a few more mile (no steel showing) but I was on a trip and didn't want to caught in the middle of nowhere with a tire out.

Great tire for the price

Just put the second tire on the rear of my KLR. First one lasted about 4,500 miles and probably could have squeezed another thousand out of it. Front is still going strong. For cruising forest service and 4x4 roads this tire rocks. As long as Shinko keeps making this tire at a good price I'll keep buying it.

Shinko 244 Rear Tire

Many have reported issues with this tire, especially with chunking of lugs, but after about 1,300+ miles on them now, many of it highway at 70+ mph, and some dirt/gravel roads, I must say I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. This tire has ridiculous grip on the road and on a trip to Red River, NM, I was able to carve out the mountain twists and turns with confidence and could easily have dragged the pegs. Excellent wear pattern thus far. Inflated to 27 psi.
