More robust housing than previous

This is my second intake kit of the same model and manufacturer. It was a replacement because, after two years, the backing plate on my original kit had cracked; allowing oil/fuel to seep through and leak down upon the exhaust making a burning and smelly mess. Seems this problem may not have been an isolated one as the new kit comes with a much thicker backing plate than the earlier version. I expect this one to really last the life of my bike...we'll see.

Terrible Quality - Backplates Crack

I bought this for my 94 Harley with stock CV carb. It bolts up quick and easy and has a quality K&N air filter. However, when going to do some more rejetting and tuning, I discovered that the back-plate had cracked around where it bolts on to the carb. Ness replaced it. The second one cracked, Ness replaced it after I raised hell. Now the third one cracked and I'm going to just throw it all in the trash. Back-plates are a brittle crystallized cast piece. Also the head breathers feed back into the carb. Bad design dumping oil into the carb under heavy acceleration. Save yourself the grief and pass on this.

Not exactly bolt-on

You will need to check the fit of the mounting surface to the intake. I had to file the surface to get it flat so the gasket could seal properly. A silicone type gasket may have worked without modification. The mounting studs have to be carefully positioned so the proper length is exposed for correct fit. It is a simple, compact design that looks good. It uses a K&N filter unlike the Screaming Eagle unit. It does greatly increase intake and engine noise over the stock airbox (but only under hard acceleration, NOT while cruising). I wonder if a simple drop in K&N filter would have given me enough air for my mild bolt in cam modification.

Was not sure it was going to fit

I was not sure this was going to fit my bike. I sent the Superstore a mail asking if it would fit my Carb. Superstore never replied to my mail that sucked. So I did a little reading on-line swing a chicken over my head and hoped for the best. The outcome was great and everything lined-up and bolted in place. Really glad I installed this product. The bike sounds a ton better and no Oil leaks.

The Big Sucker

The air filter and the installation went as stated in the instructions. As if I needed them. LOL
