This is a very nice helmet for the price. It is made of fiberglass rather than a poly-plastic mixture. This helmet also fits closer to your head as compared to other helmets of this type. This smaller profile gives you less of mushroom appearance.
I do recommend that you try one on locally prior to purchasing to assure a good fit. The large size fit me perfect. This is my second Vega helmet and I'm sure it will not my last.

I tried the GMAX and carbon fiber helmet as well. The VEGA has my vote! It was the smallest overall look if you compare to the gmax or the carbon fiber helmet. It is VERY small for a DOT helmet (more of a oval instead of a round bubble). Buy the ear pads with this helmet. They help and they are definitely worth it. I had Velcro added to the ear pads so they stick better to the straps but that's not a big deal. I have gone high speeds and not had any lifting etc... Plus I can wear a hat backwards under it just fine. Just buy it and you'll love it. I'll give motorcycle superstore a +1 for being awesome with their customer service and low prices. I am a stickler and they surpass my expectations all of the time. Thanks M.S.

I've never seen anything like it. So light, beautiful and perfect fit. The carbon fiber version. But I must warn you this helmet is only for the oval head shaped people. My wife has a smaller round head and it doesn't fit her. I ordered the medium as per chart and It fit perfectly. This style almost eliminates the mushroom head effect being DOT approved. Sits low. When seen from far looks even lower on head. Nice shape around ears and dropping low on back of head. Wraps around your brains neatly.

If you want a DOT approved helmet that has minimal weight, this is a good one. There must be a carbon fiber helmet around that is lighter, but this one really works and the price can't be beat. My wife has had neck surgery and is unable to wear a heavy helmet without headaches. This one fills the bill for her.

This is the thinnest DOT half helmet I have found. No more mushroom head! Sleek low profile design, yet still comfortably padded. The only negative is that the chin strap is ridiculously long, but that a small issue that scissors can fix. Definitely would recommend this helmet and buy it again if I ever had to.

Bought this helmet 3 weeks ago. I had tried on MANY half helmets and all have the mushroom head. This one does not! If you have a mushroom head in this thing, then you will not find a helmet that doesn't give you mushroom head. Looks cool, feels great and very little lift at highway speeds. Only other helmet I found that looked this good was NOT DOT approved. This is, AND it's cheap!!

With any DOT helmet there will be Mushroom Head. This one is thinner on the sides, which isn't all that bad. Once will all the gear on, the the bike under, it blends very well. Good construction and it doesn't rattle at high speeds. Had this thing at 80MPH, all good. For a half shell the price is not bad, quality is good, MushHead is minimal.

After checking out all the others I decided on the Vega Naked helmet. Great choice, a little hot when the temps are above 80. We ride all year round here in SoCal, gets a little cooler in the winter, should be perfect for then. Got the ear muffs too. Very comfortable and doesn’t have that mushroom head look. Fits low specially after a few adjustments. Go larger if you’re in between sizes. I got the small no room for a knit hat.

Overall a very nice half helmet. If you have a more oval shaped head, this one will likely be perfect for you. As for sizing, I measured my head and was right on the border between an XL and XXL so went with the larger as I knew I could wear a bandanna or something if needed. Fit is nearly perfect and I am sure I can go with or without something on my head and it will be fine. My ONLY complaint is that it looks a bit "tall" on my head, but I am sure that is just due to the required protection needed to be DOT certified. Not really going to complain about that as it doesn't look like the dreaded MUSHROOM like most half helmets do on my egg-shaped head. Don't think you can go wrong with this one.

Pretty nice helmet for the money! Although the XL seems than a little bit more snug than most other brands I've tried! In other words it runs small. Nice clip on end of strap to stop long end from slapping around. That way you can leave it long for when you have lots of cold weather gear underneath!

This helmet was the third half helmet I have purchased within the last month. The other two helmets along with all the helmets I tried at the HD shop made me look like a bobble head doll. What's the point in wearing a half helmet if the rider looks like a mushroom? So, I took a chance on the Vega helmet after reading the reviews. Turns out, the reviews were right on. This helmet fits and LOOKS great!! I am very pleased with it. I recommend this helmet to anyone, especially those who happened to have a smaller cranium like myself.

Not bad for the money. Had to exchange the first one for a size larger. I'm in between sizes I guess. Fits an oval shaped head better than a Charlie Brown head. The 2X size has vents in the front of it. It's just a little big but fits pretty good with a head rag under it. Lightweight and minimal 'shroom head effect, after awhile I kind of forget about having it on. Does not bother my sunglasses. The strap is too long but can be cut off and then melt the end so it doesn't fray. It's a good 3 season helmet but when it gets cold I'll go back to a full-face.

I tried lots of different half helmets and this is by far the best fit and look for me. Almost every helmet I tried made my head look like a giant mushroom. I have an oval shaped head and couldn't get most of the helmets to fit down low enough. I read the reviews and took a chance. I am completely satisfied with this helmet. I got the flat black and it has a nice low profile. The only complaint I have is the DOT stamp on it is white and kind of sticks out. But I'm going to hit it with a black sharpie marker and hopefully that will make it blend in. Like I said before, I have an oval shaped head so I'm not sure if this would be great for everyone, but if you do and you’re looking for a nice half helmet with a low profile, look no further.

I tried the Headtrip carbon fiber (DOT) helmet and was a huge mushroom look with poor fitting for $180. I also tried the GMAX GM35x (DOT) and that also looked BIGGER than the Headtrip helmet! I turned to the Vega XTS naked next and I found a great fit. It is more oval than round giving it a non-DOT appearance. I gave the fit a 4 b/c it has a tad of space at the front and rear of my head but that's fine b/c I like to wear hats backwards when I ride as well as not looking like Darth Vader. Excellent for the money. I am buying one for the g/f and I will buy again if needed.
NOTE: I recommend the removable ear pads(5.99). I found them easily worth the money.

This is a great low profile close fitting helmet, no mushroom head here. I usually wear an XL but I had to buy a small this time. Try one on first if you can, otherwise check their size chart well. It's great below 35 mph but by 50 it is loud and if the strap isn't real tight it lifts off your head. By 70 it's really pulling at your strap.

Had to purchase this as the carbon-fiber/Kevlar helmet I had used for years was recalled! About as aero as you can get for a DOT. No problems even at 70 w/out a shield. Ordered a small and after a few days fit perfectly so consider ordering smaller than usual. Had to cut the strap down, but it is comfortable.

I searched for the DOT helmet that was as close to a novelty helmet that I could find, and this is it. It is light, but very comfortable. Doesn't raise up, it does have a long chinstrap but either cut it or add a quick connect. It is the Smallest DOT helmet available. After 25 yrs. of wearing a skull cap, it is very disappointing to have to conform to this D.O.T. enforcement. Over the past few years I have went through about 6 different half helmet brands with no real pleasing results. Some were too High fitting, some too snug, and others were heavy. After reading a prior review of a gentleman that stated " My head was more oblong than round" I decided to try the Vega. Well it's a perfect fit. The helmet is slightly deep to fit "in" not "on" your head, yet it does not touch the top of your ears. The size was spot on and it is the lightest of it's kind. This helmet I find is for the "less than round head" and the profile is about as low as you could expect with 5/8" foam lining the inner. I am very happy with this helmet and finally think my search is over. Only time will tell. So far, so good.

This is a great helmet especially for the cost. It fits very comfortably and does not have the mushroom head look. I have been on a mad hunt for an open faced helmet for the past two years (riding w/a full face in the summer was horrible). I have an oval shaped head and was finding that the "mushroom" affect was happening all the time. This helmet is long enough to fit my dome and fits low enough to my ears to make it as low profiled as a DOT helmet can. I recommend it!

Great DOT helmet. Very good quality for the cost. I was surprised to find out it keeps me cooler on those hot days than my ACC helmet does. I did add some thin foam to the rear of the helmet to snug the fit up a little. Even though the fit was good. It helped with any helmet shake I was getting at high speeds.

I'm definitely satisfied with this helmet. It's the lightest, legal half shell that I've ever had. I have a small head so the mushroom affect is inevitable, yet compared to my previous half shell, this helmet is just slightly larger. Handles great in the wind (70+ MPH).

The only reason I didn't give this helmet 5 stars is because it still gives you the "mushroom head" look. Although it is far better than any other DOT helmet I've tried. This helmet also runs big. I usually wear a med to large. I ordered a med and it was too big, had to return for a small. Motorcycle superstore has an awesome return policy so it wasn't a problem, just a little extra $. Anyway, overall good bang for the buck.

I took this helmet out for a 125 mile ride yesterday..Without the windshield. I was pleasantly surprised. No wind issues whatsoever. As far as the looks go, it's DOT approved, so it's got to have the insulation that adds bulk. There are smaller DOT approved helmets out there but they're usually more expensive. For the price, I think this is a great helmet. It should be noted that I'm a man of several helmets. This is one of my new favorites.

I originally purchased this helmet in a large. Fit was terrible. Looked like a equestrian helmet. Awful. Returned and got a medium. Fits great. Much lower on the head. Not too mushroomy either. Very happy with it now. Some wind noise from straps that run over ears but that’s fine.

Ordered the gloss black model it does not give me the mushroom head look. A couple of weeks later I also ordered the same model in the matte finish. I received it and it has a completely different size foam installed. Same shell on both, different thickness in the foam. So be aware, the helmets I received gloss equals no mushroom head, matte equals mushroom head.

Helmet in carbon fiber looks great---off my head. I'm keeping it because it fits as good as any I have bought at bike shops or any where else----Maybe it's my head!

The XTS naked was one of the few half helmets that I tried that dramatically reduced the mushroom head effect. The design of the helmet is much narrower than most which creates a more streamlined look. The only drawback is that the helmet can get pretty hot at times and the strap for the helmet can be a bit uncomfortable. Other than that it’s a pretty good helmet.

Helmet is HUGE and sits high on your head...I looked like a special-ed student who just got off the bus. Immediately packed it right back up and sent it back. I don't have a big head by any means, I wear a medium. The quality is definitely there, but I couldn't even imagine riding with this at highway speed.

This is a good helmet but not great. I could not properly tighten the straps on this helmet. The front portion has a lot of slack and the straps twist. No good for me

This helmet is pretty good - gives you a little bit of a mushroom head but a lot better than Daytona helmets. Sizing is way off. I measure for a medium, got a small which was too big. Ended up with the XS which is still a little big, but they don't make them any smaller. Good buy for the price. I have been happy with it - doesn't lift up even when going over 70 mph.

Cool helmet, but not for my egghead. Too narrow side-to-side and too long front-to-back which caused the helmet to sit high. I must have looked like a Conehead from SNL!

I ordered what I thought was carbon fiber, but it was only an 'effect' printed on the shell. I was also looking for the narrowest (not round) DOT half-helmet, with the least comfort padding. If you have a narrow, tall head (vs. round, short) this helmet will give you the dreaded "mushroom head!"

The idea of how the helmet would look on was much different than how is looks in reality. It sets very high and gives almost a cone head look. Not a low profile helmet at all.

Motorcycle Superstore is great on prices, returns, shipping, and customer service. That in itself will make me order through these guys again. But Vega just isn't the brand for me. This helmet is HUGE and it sat so high up on my head(and I wear a small/medium). Sent it back cause this brand is def. not a good shape for my head. What's the point of buying a half helmet if it's going to look humongous?

Rather disappointed. You can buy the same helmet elsewhere and get the same look(mushroom) for $45. The inside of helmet is thick. It's needed though if you crash.

I don't understand how ANYONE could give this helmet 5 stars. I purchased a made my head look like a mushroom tip. Motorcycle Superstore is great and returns were quick and easy. If you want a helmet that is a skid lid style DO NOT purchase this one. Thank you and bye bye.
