Need earplugs on the highway, but one fine helmet

Love the tinted sun visor, wish it were darker as you cannot ride into the sun with the visor alone with a clear shield. Nice with sunglasses. I found the optional neck curtain works well once you stop trying to pull it off going for the modular latch. It does not fog for me. It is not light, but not bad in weight for all the features. The shield seals very good in driving rain. I find the airflow fine up to 100 degrees, no experience above that temperature.

    Great Modular Helmet

It's the first helmet that I bought, but except for fit I knew it would be a great buy. This helmet was reviewed by Motorcycle Consumer News in 10/2010 and they compared it to 11 other modular helmets and overall rated it to be the best available at the time. I've put over 1000 miles on this helmet since I bought it and it has never been uncomfortable. The cheek pads are a little snug, but otherwise the fit is good. I love the sunshade!

    Good helmet, but

Fit is nice, snug without being tight; color is great. Has the loudest wind noise of any helmet I have ever owned, so it is not one I can wear above about 40 mph.

    HJC Sy-Max II Modular Helmet

I love this helmet. The sun visor is great as you never have to worry about fingerprints on it. Flipping up the front for easy on and off is great. The airflow feature is only fair, I find I still fog up the shield but that is solved by keeping it open a crack. Overall a great helmet for the price.

    HJC SY-Max Modular

This is my third season with the Sy-Max and I love it. It fits great, and comes off and on easily with my glasses on. I love the sunscreen for a quick remedy to sun glare, and it doesn’t lift even in blustery crosswinds. I love being able to pop the front open for better visibility and open air if I chose. I’d buy another which is my highest endorsement.

Very disappointed in helmet. It feels like it's sitting on my head, not my head fitting into the helmet. Wish I would have returned it.

    Not the greatest

This helmet is tight. Not snug, tight - and I ordered it an extra size up, to insure it would be a little roomier. It does not, imo, fit true to size. And, like another reviewer claimed, it hits you in all the wrong places. It's like HJC went out of their way, to make it uncomfortable. The chin strap hits me more like a throat strap. I live in Hawaii, and I needed a cool helmet. This one is very well ventilated, but at the cost of imposing howling wind noise. Even with all the vents closed, it still whistles, and then it feels like you've placed your head in an easy bake oven. If you're looking for quiet serenity within the lid, while still being able to breath freely, keep looking. It's a gorgeous helmet. The sunshield that raises and lowers is trick. It just doesn't fit a human head well.

I am in the 3rd year with my SyMax II - fog problem pretty much solved

Love the helmet, is noisy and large profile does cause some buffet at higher speeds. Have equipped with Harley headset and works great for intercom - music etc. We ride year around and in the rain where visor fogging is a major irritant. Added a stick on Pro anti-fog shield and fog is reduced considerably in Cold riding. Have not had opportunity to see how effective it is in driving rain which is my main concern. Hate riding in the rain with the visor cracked open. Water comes in both the bottom and runs down inside of visor from the top and then the fog. Also added a "borrowed from another make of helmet" breath guard which I trimmed so that it did not rub on helmet when putting the chin piece up. I think I have it beat now...

A good modular helmet but not the best.

Overall, this modular helmet is a good helmet for the price. Even at the right size, it seems a bit too loose in front. The chin strap is not easy to work with as the other HJC helmets. I did try another more expensive European made modular helmet with better fit and the chin strap is an easy snap-on. Unfortunately, the chin strap choked me (even loosen at maximum) so I had to return it and settled with the HJC.

Great helmet! Wish I had it.

When I received this helmet I noticed that the chin locking mechanism didn't seem as snug as the one I tried on in a store. After wearing it for a few days it became even looser. I discovered that the left side of the face shield wasn't locking at all. Just the right side. I packed the helmet up in the original boxes and returned it. It's now back with HJC hopefully getting a warranty repair done on the face shield lock. I have been told that this will take 4 to 8 weeks to resolve! That's a long time to wait for something as expensive and important as a helmet. Looking at other reviews seems to tell me that this model has a rather high "infant mortality". If it's built right, all is well. If not, you're in for some grief. If you get one, inspect it carefully! Look at cheek pad snaps, inside trim, and the chin lock! Do not wear it until you're satisfied that it is functional. I really liked it until I discovered the broken left side lock. I can't give a full review on the cost benefit until I find out if there will be any repair charges for fixing this helmet (I've already sent this thing back on my dime) which I won't know about for another few weeks. Slightly steamed!!

    Mr UT29

I received this helmet about 3 weeks ago. I have put 3100 miles on it so far. I like the fit and the flip-up feature very much. It is noisy at least with my bike/windshield combination.. Much of the noise seems to come from under the ear area. The helmet is a size large. I have both the stock large cheek pads and the extra-large, which are thinner (go figure). The noise level is the same with either set installed. I have given up on using my Scala Rider Solo. I can hear nothing on it. In spite of the noise level I am happy with this helmet because of the comfort and convenience of the flip-up chin bar, the fit and the appearance.

Sy-Max ll Modular Helmet - like it, but.......

I like this helmet a lot. I bought 2 of these for me and my wife. Both of them had to be sent back to exchange for the next size larger, though. We each also have the CL-15 helmets, and thought this would fit the same - wrong! By using the size chart I should be between L/XL, and my wife a small Medium. To get a correct fit, though, I had to have a 2XL and my wife an XL. Once I got the fit right it's a great helmet. The features are very good. It goes on easily over my eye glasses, and sun visor works great without interfering with my glasses. My biggest complaint is that the visor is not fog resistant. It fogs very easily on cool days and I found that I have to keep the visor cracked open a bit to keep the fogging minimized.

    Great Helmet

It runs a little snug so be very careful with the sizes - most that I talk to wear a size larger than normal. That was true with me. But other than that, this is a dream of a helmet. Easy to flip up, the sun shade is a great addition, very comfortable (even on long rides), noise is reasonably low for a modular. Overall, highly recommended.

    Unimpressed

If it was well made, it would be a very good helmet. I think it's cheaply made. I ordered one and had problems with it. It was covered under warranty, but I had to send it back on my dime. In the mean time, I purchased another one to wear while mine was in for repair. Now I have the same problem with both helmets. The weatherstripping around the faceshield is tearing, the styrofoam is cracked on both sides in the same place from pulling the cheek area apart to fit it over head and the plastic snaps that hole the cheekpads in place are practically useless. I've tried to contact HJC several times and get no response. My original Symax that I've had for a lot longer and put on the same way is still intact. I think they don't make them like they used to. I'm done with them.
