    Shoei Hornet DS (Dual-Sport) Helmet

More than just a helmet that mixes two genres together (street and dirt), the Shoei Hornet DS is a helmet that contains many of the qualities that any rider, regardless of style wants. Starting with its most prevalent features, the Hornet DS is equipped with a visor and face shield able to work both on and off road. Long enough for roost and sun deflection, the visor is nevertheless aerodynamically shaped to handle the higher speeds of highway work. The face shield, which is fully removable, gives a commanding view while still sealing out wind and rain. And when the shield is removed, you have the option of using dirt bike style goggles if desired. Finished with a venting system that is largely based on the motocross VFX-W and the Hornet DS becomes a very capable adventure touring and dual sport helmet.
    • Designed for the adventure touring and dual sport market
    • Helmet can be used in three configurations: with visor and shield, with just shield, or with just visor
    • A wide, 3-dimensionally curved shield completely seals against the eyeport beading
    • Lightweight, Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus (AIM+) shell
    • Visor includes a front air intake to channel air into top of helmet
    • Shutter behind nose cover directs air flow to clear shield fogging
    • Fully removable 3-D interior, with 5-layer cheekpads that are channeled for eyeglasses
    • Built-in breath guard and chin curtain included
    • C-49 shield: 3D curved, 99.9% UVA and UVB protection, scratch-resistant coating, optional C-49 Pinlock shield and lens
    • DOT and Snell 2005 Approved
    • Shoei products can only be shipped to U.S. customers

    Not the best helmet

I have been using this helmet most days on the way to work and some rides for a little over a year riding a BMW GSA 1200 Plus: Looks very nice. Paint and liner holds up well over time. Easy to get on and off. Room for speakers in ears (Bluetooth). Good visbilty Cons: Very loud. Visor is useless as it is above eye line. Arai is much better as far as visor. I do not recommend this helmet! It is just too loud and the visor is a very big issue for me.

    Five Year Update--Not So Good

It’s very loud and your head gets pushed around. The padding along the inside/bottom doesn't stay in place. The face shield is complicated to remove. The breath deflector isn't effective, so it fogs up. But the big issue is the finish. The helmet looks horrible now. The black coating can be scraped off with your fingernail. There is a shiny black finish underneath the rubberized outer finish so the outer finish doesn't adhere well. My next helmet will be a street model, and probably not Shoei.

    best fit, best customer service

Ordered an aria xd-4, did not fit my head well (forehead pressure point and felt like a gasket seal around the helmet openings and nothing else contacting my head). Motorcycle Superstore customer service exchanged the aria xd-4 for a shoei hornet ds. I have other shoei helmets and this hornet ds feels like a shoei fit, large eye port, true comfort all day. Peak has only slight lift at 60mph and a little noisy with my ride posture but it's a great helmet for me.

    Worth It

Another great helmet from Shoei. Fits well and gets the job done at lower speeds. The only draw backs are that the outer paint finish chips and scratches easily and the little grabber to bring the windscreen down cracks easily.

    Hornet DS

Overall its a really nice lightweight helmet. Only thing that could make it better would be finer adjustments on the face shield position. I wish they made a 2XL as this one fits me really tight.

My 3rd Shoei - Never disappointed

This is my 3rd Shoei helmet and I am once again pleased with this purchase. As predicted in previous reviews, Shoei engineers a snug fit around the face. However, I know in advance the fit will be welcome in head on winds. The style is awesome and the location and size of the vents will be welcome in the heat.

    Better tan AGV's Dual Sport!

I tried AGV Dual Sport Helmet, because that is the Brand I liked back in the 80's but after sending the AGV back several times, I decided t go for this Shoei Hornet DS Helmet. Great Choice, the fit is a little tight around the Cheeks, but other than that I love this helmet. True to size.

    Awesome Helmet

This is my second Helmet and I enjoy it a lot. it is super light and fits perfectly. The design is very nice and cool. The price could be a little bit better but I really trust in the brand and I hope do not have to prove it

    Impressions after 2000 miles

Safety - I feel better with a DOT and Snell approved full face helmet. Visibility - Fantastic. I won't wear my my old modular helmet again. Visor - It's removable, but don't bother. behind a small widescreen and the visor is no problem. You will feel it a little, though, in a strong cross wind. Accessories - Smoke face screen is nice, but sunglasses will fit under the helmet. Also, I had no problem mounting a Scala rider intercom system inside the helmet.

    Good aerodynamic

Very good looking helment (bought the matte black one). The fit is correct. This helmet has great peripheral vision and the drag at 120kph is very low. It is noticed a good aerodynamic work was performed on it. I haven´t used it a lot of times so I can´t say too much about durability.

    Excellent Helmet

The ratio value is higher than the cost price. It is a very comfortable helmet with a vision greater than 180 degrees.

    Great Helmet

This is a great helmet if you are a Dual Sported and/or Super Motard renegade. I have used others and this by far kicks the competitions (in this price range) butt. Not much drag from the Visor at speeds and the vents are well placed. Can't really call the durability as I have only had it for a month. Motorcycle Superstore has the best price around. I only wish that for the price you could get some kind of graphic choices in addition to a slick helmet. I have never found solid helmets attractive. This one will get some stickers to make it my own.
