06 V-rod, great fit
I finally broke down and bought bags and the price was good on these, looked like they'd fit, so I went for it. I'm glad I did. I have a 2006 V-rod that's lowered an inch in the rear with an 11.5 inch wide passenger seat. The seat helps keep the bags up and out, though the stock seat would let them sit against the fender a little better and not fold in as much at the bottom. I haven't bothered with a frame or guards of any type, as the bags sit far enough off the wheel and rear brake (but it's close).
I used my shock mount on the frame and my rear turn signals (it still has the stock "dogs ass," or license plate mount; look it up) to loop the clips around, and has worked perfectly so far.
Something else to note, they have a rubberized coating on the fender side of the bags. My bike is flat black, and I hardly ever wash it, so rubbing is no big deal for me. If you wanted to keep your paint pretty, I'd probably come up with a frame that could bolt up to the holes for the passenger back rest or something that would protrude from under the seat.
Just got back from a 600 mile overnight jaunt with speeds averaging 70 to 80 mph, and no problems. Bags have held up well so far, but I've only had them for a couple months, and don't usually have them on the bike. All in all, not a bad investment.
