Questionable Design
I ordered this unit for my 97 YZF 600 because I wanted a clear tail light lens to fit my stock unit. A clear factory lens was $86 from the dealer!! The quality of the light, wiring and plug seems to be good quality. However, when I plugged it in only the brake light would light continuously. After I looked things over further I realized that although the plug matched my stock plug the wiring was not in the same order. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that at some point during the 10 years that Yamaha made the Thundercat they must have switched the wiring order. It's possible to fix by cutting and splicing in the proper order to match stock for a 97. The other issue I had was that instead of using a red bulb to light the clear lens they installed a plastic cover over the clear bulb that was held in by two screws. Those screws were only accessible from the back of the housing which is only accessible with the tail light unit out of the bike. This becomes a real hassle when the bulb blows and needs to be changed! I would suggest leaving the red plastic cover off and using a red bulb instead to save time down the road. In the end I ended up just using the clear lens that came with this unit and installing it on the stock housing already on my bike. That way no modifications need to be made.
