I purchased two units with the open face microphone system. All I really wanted was to communicate with my passengers as we toured the local countryside. Both units worked well at speeds of 0-35 MPH. At higher speeds, the signal came in broken up; partly due to the noise of wind and partly due to the unit's sensitivity to my motorcycle's electrical system. In brief, I could not communicate with my passenger at speeds exceeding 35 MPH.

Great new Chatterbox!
I've owned an older Chatterbox for several years and always bemoaned the fact that it wasn't Bluetooth capable. No longer! The new and improved Chatterbox XBi2 is AWESOME! Easy pairing to my A2DP stereo Bluetooth iphone and blackberry. Great music quality and plenty of volume for my slightly windy full helmet. Phone functions are easy and work well and the battery life is really good at 6-8 hours. I'm very impressed and happy with my unit. I just wish it wasn't quite so expensive. Hopefully they'll come down in price so I can get my wife one as well.

WORKED GREAT
After reading several reviews on the chatterbox, several people said they couldn't hear well at highway speeds,I did NOT find this true for me at 70mph I had no problem hearing my wife, & I even have Cobra pipes. Linking up the units was as simple as a wireless headset for a phone, my wife walked across the parking lot & inside the store & we could still talk so range is GREAT. The first day we road our headsets were on about 12 hrs..they did start beeping letting us know the battery was low, but thats still a pretty good time on the unit, and thats alot of miles, on the second day we road threw the Smoky Mountains it came a down pour rain storm, we had NO PROBLEM with them getting wet, & we road about 300 miles & had no issue with the battery's lasting WORKED GREAT.. So if your thinking of getting this I would say what are ya waiting on THEY ARE GREAT

Was skeptical but very pleased
I have to say, this worked great. We synced up 3 riders with this device and it was pretty cool and the quality was good. The distance between riders worked great and seemed to be accurate in the description.
The only thing I would have liked to see on this was an option to use your own ear buds and not use the speakers. The speakers worked very well but I like to use my custom Big Ear, ear buds but was unable to since there is no 3.5mm plug for this. I was still able to use my Big Ears to listen to music and cranked up the speakers as loud as they go and i could still hear the other riders and cell calls.
Overall very pleased.

Chatterbox XBi2
I bought 2 of these for my wife and I. We like being able to comunicate while we are riding. We are using them with iPhones which work really nice. The intercom also works very well between the bikes (separate). Chatterbox has been great with phone support and explaining how to get the most out of the units. I did have one of them die on me this morning? I'm sure Chatterbox will take care of this quickly based on my experience with them so far.

Installation was easy, setup for communication was not, but we did get it working in one evening. Bluetooth works well, and the intercom works very well. Battery life, using Bluetooth is only about four hours, using only intercom, maybe five or six. The speakers mount in the helmet with Velcro, but do not stay put. They were a struggle. We used these on a long bike trip (4300 miles), and they performed the whole time. We just wish the battery life was longer.

xbi2 a good buy
After using these units for a month now, I am pleased overall. Between my bike and my wife’s, If I can see her, I can talk to her. Normal distance where it starts cutting out is about 120 to 150 yards. Slightly shorter if around sharp curves. We can hear clearly and not much road noise. The only negative I feel is that the battery life could be longer. Average is about 5 hours talk time and the unit is depleted. Standby time is not as advertized either, but it seems to be getting better the longer we use them, so we shall see.

should have never sent it back!
I bought it about 2 months ago and it seemed great but i just couldnt hear it ring when i was getting a call, so i called the manufacturer to see if where was anything i could do and they said yeah send it to us and we will fix it, so a week later i got it back and then i could hear the calls very well, so again i called and it went back and i asked if i could just have my orignal one back. i also bought the icombe 12 to play my mp3 player and it cuts in and out, i emailed the manufacturer and still havent heard from them. I got back supposable orignal and now only about 1/2 the time can i hear the caller, they hear me fine but they are VERY low. So at this point i would not recommend this item. the only way i seem to be able to hear is turn the xbi2 off and on while riding then call back.

Great Product!
This provides a great way to communicate while riding. The audio is crystal clear. So when I'm not answering a call I can listen to music. The phone call is always clear and I hear no interference and have asked the caller if they can hear wind they weren't able to tell the difference in background noise. All in all a great product. Just make sure to charge it after a few rides as listening to an ipod will drain the battery faster.

Awesome product
My wife and I purchased two Yamaha TMAX's spring of '09. We quickly realized that communication was a key ingredient missing from our enjoyment of riding together on separate bikes. Then we found the Chatterbox XBi2. We cannot imagine riding ANYWHERE without this marvelous piece of technology. Not only does it work great, I was easy to install too! I wear a half open face and half shield and she an open face with full shield. We can hear each other as clear as being next to each other when we are up to 300-500 feet away driving well over 65 mph. Have not had to test a further distance but would not doubt its range of more than twice this. Pairing was easy with a blackberry and an LG Dare. Only one slight gripe....the instruction manual could be better written and more descriptive. Otherwise, you will love the Chatterbox XBi2.
