Terrible Finish
This was not what I was expecting from Shoei. The visor came with a terrible finish, there is a U shaped scratch (from the finishing process) in the inside that blocks your sight. Very disappointed!

Not great...
Looked cool, but it seemed to cause a little distortion and in the sun I could see my own reflection inside the helmet. Returned it for the cheaper dark tint shield. Much happier now.

Shoei Quaility
I love the RF-1000 helmet line and the visors. Very simple to change the visors. The mirror finish is very nice and not easy to see through from the outside, but visually perfect from the inside. Tinting is too dark for night riding, but perfect for a normal day. My only complaint, and this seems to happen with all my Shoei visors, is it fogs up at slow speeds and stops. The helmet doesn't seem to be happy unless it is pushing a race pace, which is not always possible.

Spectra Shield Crome for X-11
This is my 2nd shield. Exterior mirror finish but not tinted too dark. I have actually used after sunset w/o a problem. The chrome has a gray/neutral tint looking out. I do not know about the blue or gold. Gave a 3 on durability due to scratches easily for the price.

Trip Results: 4000 miles in 30 days
The Spectra shield is not a good choice on a long trip. While the tint was acceptable, it accumulated too many little scratch marks from bugs and road debris. These scratches look like hundreds of tiny pinholes, often the damaged mirror material around each hole will reflect the light right at your eyes. I think this visor is great for ordinary use on short trips when not riding into the sun. I did expect the visor to collect scratches on the trip, but I didn't expect those scratches to impede my vision by filling the field of vision with mirrored speckles of bright light. I find that it scratched a little too easily for the money. I wonder if it’s possible for Shoei to laminate the mirror or sandwich it between layers of plastic for added protection?

Freakin' sweet!
I have a plain gloss black RF-1000 with a mirror tint visor and just looks sweet! This visor will significantly help on bright, sunny days, especially when the sun is glaring directly into your eyes. Of course, you'll want to keep the clear visor around for night riding.

Nice looking, pricey & fragile
The finish on this looks amazing. That's really all there is to it. You either dig the way it looks and are willing to part with the cash, or you aren't. If you want tint, there are better and cheaper options. This one can be scratched easily, and the tint isn't really too dark, so you need to be in love with the look of it to justify it. And it does look pretty good, by the way.

Fine shield
I bought the blue spectra shield for my RF-1000. It fits and interchanges with my clear shield in seconds. More a function of the helmet. The blue spectra coating is really nice looking, to me anyway. Looking through the shield could be a little darker though. Riding into the sun is pretty bright and doesn't cut down the glare that much. All other times it's adequate for sun.

Best shield thus far
I have the silver/chrome spectra shield and it adds a very nice touch to my lid. I prefer this over my light smoked shield. Everything about it is great other than the lens/finish being very fragile. I lightly bumped my shield into my bathroom wall and now there's a small patch of scratches. The smoked shields are more durable than the Spectra finish. Take good care of the shield then you'll be set. Not suggested for night use.

Makes your helmet look mean!
Bought the mirror shield for my RF-1000, because it just looks trick! Easy to install on the Shoei. I even wore it at night, even though it was getting a little dark (you can get by with it at night, but would be better to go for a clear shield for night riding). Pricey compared to regular shields though.

Shoei RF-1000 Helmet
I bought this helmet a few months ago. It's very quiet and has almost no wind noise. I have not experienced any head shake, and suspect it would hold up well in a crash. However, I expected more from the anti-fog system. The shield fogs up badly in weather below 72 degrees. I probably will use one of my other helmets in the winter. Overall, it's a good helmet. I would buy another one.

Helmet weathers the storm
This helmet fits well and the antifogging feature works well. I accidentally got caught in a rainstorm and it protected me very well. I was able to see easily through the rain as it rolled off the visor. Even with the vents open my head was still completely dry when the rest of me got soaked. It does make a bit of a whistling sound when I turn my head if the air vents are open which I don't have with my other helmet.

X-11 Shield removes glare - Great shield
This is a great shield. Looking on the outside of the shield one could assume it is a darker shield to look out of. Not so, it filters out glare and increases your visibility when riding with a lot of sunlight hitting you. Direct sunlight still an issue (with any shield). I augment with tinted safety glasses under the shield (does not interfere with Spectra Shield at all). After every ride I make sure to carefully wipe down shield to ensure debris is removed or any small particles that could scratch are removed. Great look to shield also. I would recommend this item (And purchase again in the future).

Blue Spectra Shield
It makes the helmet look great. It isn't dark enough and doesn't fit as good as the clear one I took off. It's kind of tight to move. Still great for morning or evening rides.

Shoei tinted shield
I purchased the gold version to be a little different. Plus my helmet has black silver and gold colors. The tint works well when it’s sunny out, but not suggested when it’s dark, of course. The gold tint is a little greener that I expected, but not too bad. Shoei's design makes it super easy and fast to swap shields.

Shoei Spectra Shield-Blue
Took a new shield with fog city Pro Shield installed on an 8 day trip. Works great during daylight hours. Blocks sun but allows for great vision. Does scratch easily. Looks great. I would buy it again.

Spectra Shield
The shield looks awesome and is really easy to put on. Just follow the instructions that came with the helmet. Only thing I’d like better about it is if it was a little bit more shiny, it’s almost like a black chrome but it still looks sick. Easy to see out of too. (Not bad at night either).

Living here in Las Vegas where the sun is very bright and out most of the year, I needed a different shield for my helmet so that I could avoid wearing sunglasses in the helmet. Great Shield

Bought the Silver and blue, the blue didn't match my Norick, but the silver looks great on the Red/black Vermeulen. They are awesome in the daylight, I would pass on them during the night and stick with a clear unless you have great headlights, are riding slow and the street lights are awesome. Otherwise you might lose the small details that will end up causing you problems.

Whatever Shoei is doing, they’re doing it right and has made me a believer in their company. If they made a sports bike I'd buy it. The X-11/RF-1000 Spectra Shields are great. The clear shield brings glare free freedom unlike other helmet shields. In fact a lot of times when removing my helmet I don't realize my shield is still down. Also, the mirror shield, like the clear shield, brings glare free freedom but with an added stylish plus by giving the rider an invincible look.

X-11/rf-1000 spectra shield
I love this shield. I find it to be a great balance of tinting for riding at night and sunny days. Its nice not having to deal with sunglasses. The only downside I have is the first spectra visor I bought was scratched a couple of months later and the gouges were so distracting when riding it was tough to pony up the money for another visor, but I had become so accustomed to it that I had little choice. Its cool aid for the eyes.
