Have not tried the removal collar in the winter yet, but if you must wear a DOT approved helmet, this is the one I'd recommend. Lighter and more form fitting than other brands I've had.

Skid-Lid Classic Cruiser Helmet
As a half helmet it is not made to accept visor accessories. When worn, the helmet's interior is of such mass and rigid mass that it is rather uncomfortable.

Skid Lid - Classic Touring
Great helmet for the money. This is my second Skid Lid, like the style and the fit. Chin strap is a little too long.

Skid Lid Touring Helmet.
Haven't used it yet, no helmet law in WI. It's mainly for traveling in other states and it will fit in the saddle bag for when needed. Have to give it a low mark in finish as the chin strap is not sewn correctly on one side. It is not centered on the double strap that connects it to the helmet.

Definately worth the price
Needed a helmet for a two week class of advanced motorcycle training, (wasn't allowed to use my full face helmet I use on my sport bike). Found this one (Skid Lid) and was quite happy with it. The curtain was great since there were two days of high wind in 45 degree weather (not to mention 3 rain days). The curtain kept my ears nice and warm and easily zipped off for the days I did not need it. I like the matte black finish. Only issue I found was the visor is not as snug as it could be. This led to a little more noise when riding at higher speeds. Over all, this was (and is) a great deal for fifty bucks. I gave it a 4 for durability because I really did not get to test its durability.....

Comfy Helmet
Looks good, comfortable to wear and inexpensive. The removable leather mask looks bad and doesn't fit well at all, unless you've got a long horse face. Might as well unzip it and give it to your dog to chew up. It says DOT approved, but it's just a cheap sticker on the back saying DOT. I found no supporting documentation of this. Keep in mind it's also made in China, so it's sketchy. Recommend getting something with at least Snell approval.
