This is my first helmet so I don’t have any to compare to but I love this helmet. It’s so light my head never feels strained after hours of riding. The air flow is awesome in the Florida humidity and sun but I still ride with the visor cracked first notch most of the time. still have to open the visor at long lights though. the finish looks awesome the only reason why i rated it a 4 was because it chips easy. it BARELY hit my tool box and left a chip in it. also it doesn’t have a removable liner which kind of sucks. for anyone looking for a light and excellent airflow helmet that is Snell approved this is the one.

Great helmet except for fogging
I got this in the other day and it is a very nice helmet for the price. It is comfortable, and fit perfect with the sizing chart. However my chief complaint is that the visor fogs ALOT. I have installed the breath guard, no help. I have all the vents open, that only helps above 20-30 mph (doesn’t help much for city driving). I read about the shaving cream trick. Worked for my glasses but not the shield. To top it off, there is NO fog shield available for this helmet. I am going to try some anti-fog sprays, but have already been told that a balaclava is a better investment, as I will be doing most of my riding this winter with the face guard up.

Great Helmet
Great helmet. I normally wear half helmets but getting older thinking of safety more. Wanted something comfortable and quiet. This does the trick. I have loud pipes and I can go on the hwy without earplugs. I am very picky. Too bad I did not buy online here, I could have saved lots of bucks.

I have had different types of helmets in the past including Shoei. I found the fit and quality of this helmet unsurpassed at this cost. I have purchased cheaper helmets but the quality is inferior.

Superior lid
This is the mid grade from top of the line Shoei. It does a great job in reducing wind noise, feels great - balanced and light, and keeps you very comfortable in all temps. The only thing that could use some improvement is the shield fogging. I noticed it most on cold mornings in NY. Recommend!

Really nice helmet with plenty of venting to keep you cool. I wear glasses and they fit just fine inside the helmet. Great price though (about $60 less than the retail stores)

Shoei - RF-1000 Solid Helmet
Compared to all the other helmets that could fit my XXXL head, this was the most comfortable. All the vents work really well on keeping my head cooled. Just kind of wish the liner was removable, besides that the helmet is very comfortable, aerodynamic and well worth the money.

Good Quality, but....
I've had this helmet for 2 months, and use it regularly for commute at around 70mph. Quality/fit/finish are great, as is ventilation, but the noise from wind buffeting around the neck is loud, (even with ear plugs in and vents closed). This is my first helmet, so i have no frame of reference... other reviewers are calling it "very quiet", i'd hate to hear what "noisy" is! Also, the "flat black" paint scuffs very easily, stick with gloss.

Shoei RF 1000 Unbelievable helmet
This thing is one heck of a helmet. It is areodynamic, and light weight,going down the road I can't even feel it on my head. I was shocked the first time I wore it out and about. The vents are outstanding, the helmet is light and peripheral vision is superior to my old HJC helmet. This helmet is very high quality, the fit and finish is of a level I have not seen or experienced before.
The only negative thing I can think of is the fogging of the shield when you stop at a light or at slow speed around town. At speed the defogger works great. Plan on cracking the shield a little in town to keep the fog from overcoming the shield.
The finish on the helmet is superior to anything I have seen before.
You won't be dissapointed with this helmet.
I am a Shoei owner from now on.

I bought this helmet after owning other Shoei helmets. I have not had a new one in quite a while. I must say that I am impressed with the fit and finish of this helmet.
My only complaint is that it is a little snug on my cheeks. It fits my head nicely but it is squeezes my cheecks a little. Other than that I am thrilled.

Own 3 RF1000s
Why did I buy 3? Two helmets are solid white for my wife to ride on our touring bike. They have intercom/stereo sets installed. The 3rd helmet I use for riding my sport touring bike (matches the colors of my bike and has no intercom/stereo unit installed.
These Shoei helmets are not my first purchases of Shoei products. I've had their products for nearly 20 years. I have owned helmets from other brands (Arai, KBC, Bell), but was always disappointed with the quality of parts, fit, and comfort. Also, other helmet brands I've tested/owned can be really noisey at speed. Not so with the RF-1000. I always felt the others would provide protection as well in a crash as Shoei, but I never want to test that area. So comfort becomes a large consideration.
The RF-1000 line is one of the lightest and quietest helmets at speed. Yes, it is a bit snug when putting on - mostly the chin bar against your checks, but once fully on, it feels like a natural part of your head - IF you are used to looking through a full face helmet.

I got it in red and it's a beauty. I put this on and feel like I'm riding in a plush Cadillac. It's quiet and comfortable. When I am standing still, I usually have to flip up the visor a notch to avoid fogging. I haven't had the opportunity to try it in the Florida summers, but the air flow is excellent so I am anticipating success.

Great Helmet
So I have had this helmet now for 7 months so I have a pretty good idea of its performance. I will say that I wished I shopped around a bit more, as from a cost basis, there are other more "feature rich" helmets for the same price. I have been a long time Shoei owner and this one is as good as any. It is relatively quiet compared to its competitors, and I like the removable fog guard and chin skirt (I wish the fog guard were a little more sturdy though, i.e., rubber or plastic, it's a molded foam with a semi-rigid skeleton and it gets mishapen when you grab the helmet by the chinbar. The venting is pretty standard (and I think Shoei went for cutting down the air/noise turbulence here over max air), but I wouldn't mind more flow-vents at the face (in hot weather you need as much as possible). I had a Shoei GX-1 back in the day, and it had more venting. Beyond that, this is simply a very well made lid (my last one lasted 10 years), and if the unthinkable ever happens I feel secure that I have state of the art protection.

Well designed, offers good wind protection with the vents closed and great ventilation with them open. Solid lid mechanism. Anti-fog feature works well. The sizes run a little small; I had to get one size bigger from what I normally wear. Overall great product!

All grade A except for the fogging...Not a problem for me; I tend to ride when it's not insane to open the face shield for a moment or two...If you're moving, it's clear...Stopped when the temperature is 40 or below; it fogs...All in all, the helmet is well worth the cost.

Secure and minimal wind noise
Shoei RF1000 feels secure if not a little too snug for its size. I ordered one slightly larger than my head size, but I found it hard to get into and out of the helmet. I am amazed and impressed with the calmness at the freeway speed. The turbulence is minimal. At twice the cost of other middle of the road helmets, the cost benefit is an issue with me. But I hope never to find out first hand on how much better the helmet can protect my head.

Very happy with this purchase. A huge upgrade from my previous helmet, lightweight and breathable. Occasionally the visor fogs up when at lights or stopped and I think it is due to the use of the under chin air resistor which can be removed. All in all very happy, would recommend.

Perfect!!
Watching the video was the final selling feature for me. The wind tunnel test was important. This helmet handles the wind very well, and does not pull up on you. Nice on long rides. Cheek pads were too tight on my face. I had to remove a layer of foam from inside of pads, and now the helmet fits great. The paint job on these is excellent. The visor holds up to scratches very well. A++++ overall!!!

I've worn this for several weeks now. It’s pretty comfy. I even ride with glasses on and the shield wide open no problems, other wise it does get hot.... but for long trips and rain ya can’t beat it. In retrospect, I may have been just as happy with the TZ-R. Ya cant beat SHOEI quality and Motorcycle Superstore is AWESOME!@!

What is there to say, it's a Shoei!
This is my third Shoei helmet. I have tried others, bought a couple other brands also, but keep coming back to Shoei. This one is by far the best I've had so far. It is quieter than the previous ones (wind tunnel testing has paid off), the vents are reasonably easy to open and provide excellent ventilation, and is very stable. Also note, this thing is LIGHT! My first major outing was a constant three hour trip without stops, and not once did I want to rip the helmet off my head, it is almost as if it becomes part of you. The cheek pads are removable and came with an installable fog dam to help prevent the visor from fogging, as well as an installable chin cover.

I have this in solid black with the chrome shield, it looks awesome. The Shoei decal on the front is painted on with silver metallic paint and it’s covered over with the finish so you don’t have to worry about peeling. Fits awesome.

Very nice helmet. Was surprised to find that the 3xl fit me. I had tried on a 3xl HJC and it didn't fit and I had been told that Shoei ran a size smaller than HJC. Well that turned out wrong. It has adequate ventilation for the most part. I find here on the damp Oregon coast when it is 50 degrees or colder that the visor fogs quickly. I bought a Fog City antifog visor liner and now I don't have the fogging problem. Too bad that this helmet is only offered in black, silver, and white in 3xl. Othe

I bought this helmet based on a recommendation from a professional test rider and was not disappointed. Very light weight and comfortable. The airflow through the helmet is great and needed for riding in the warm climate down here. The airflow around the helmet is good also and greatly reduces buffeting.

I've been wearing the RF-1000 for over a year now. I ride 40 mi to & from work year round & it's kept my head warm on 20F nights & dry during severe summer storms. A helmet review isn't complete w/o a crash test but thankfully I can't supply one. Ventilation is as good as can be expected from a full face helmet. Highly recommend it.

Great helmet to be wearing in an accident
I've been down wearing this helmet and an Icon jacket with CE armor and walked away without any serious problem. Didn't even notice the huge ding on the side where my head hit the curb. This is an excellent product and I won't hesitate to buy another. If I had been wearing a beanie, I'd probably be roadkill.

I just purchased the rf-1000 and love the quality workmanship of this helment.This is a very light helmet with vents that are easy to locate and use.This helment is also quiet without the use of earplugs and more so with the use of earplugs. Wind noise is virtually eliminated.The pads inside the helmet make this helmet very comfortable to wear.I have an oval shaped face and find this helmet perfect for my facial structure.
