Alpinestars - Effex Gore-Tex Boots
These boots actually fit, and were true to size. I was a little concerned about the Gore-Tex, but my feet have not been unduly hot. The boots are easy to get off and on, but the velcro tab on the zipper appears to be a little on the cheap side; though both have remained in place. The boots are comfortable, with a built in shin guard. I'd buy another pair, knowing what I know now. If you find them on sale (I paid around $175) get yourself a pair - you won't be sorry.

Alpinestars - Effex Gore-Tex Boots
I got these boots just for the commute in to work but like them so much I am thinking of wearing them on longer trips. They took a couple of days to break in but now that they are, they are the most comfortable boots I've ever had. There's no hard plastic armor but again, that's not what these boots are for. I do wish however that the toe shifter area was a little stiffer.
I can't vouch for their protective properties as I haven't crashed in them but they seem pretty sturdy in the ankle and shin area. The Velcro and zipper closure system is pretty stout too.
They do run a bit small so order one size larger and you'll be happy. Nice boots.

Effex Gore-Tex Boots
These are the best motorcycle boots I've ever had. Comfort was beyond my hope. I've worn them all day long & wasn't in a hurry to take them off at the end of the day... they are like comfortable slippers. I don't know the durability. So far, no reason to think they will have any issues... Everything is still like day one. They are warm & very dry.

Real nice boots!
Be careful on the size. I wear a size 8 and ordered size 40 and they were perfect. Very comfortable right out of the box. I wore them around the office all day for the first couple of days. They don't really breathe but I didn't expect that in a high protective boot and I don't have a problem in that area anyway. Haven't had them in heavy rain yet but they look like they would handle it well. I got them on clearance so they were a good value.

Time will tell
Wearing the boots for a few weeks now, they are certainly comfortable to walk in. I do have a slight problem feeling the shifter, and feels a little thick in the toe area, causing me to be more deliberate on releasing the shift lever after shifting. The gor-tex worked well in the rain, riding for an hour, without leakage. Time will tell if they wear well, and the cost is offset by comfort.

My new boots!
I like my new Alpinestars boots. The boots fit well, feel protective and are comfortable walking. My only disappointment is the velcro closure does not stay flush on the inseam.

Alpinestars - effex gore-tex boots
Living in Florida, many riders like me tend not to wear boots because of the hot weather. I have had no success finding a boot (ton's of purchases) until I slipped my feet into these boots. Recently, I rode to Daytona for Bike Week (crazy place) for approximately 300 miles - not only a GREAT FIT, and no problem with the 80 degree heat. Heat problem, no way, and with the Florida rain, no wetness problem! THE BEST...spent most of the walking in these boots and I wish I found these boots a long time ago because of the comfort and NO TIRED FEET at the end of the day. Tend to "run" small - ordered larger than normal and had to go larger in the size. Absolutely a GREAT BOOT!!!

Alpinestars Effex Gore-Tex Boots
These boots look and fit great! I did take someone's advice from another review and ordered a size smaller because these boots do seem run a little large. My other riding boots are size 42 so I purchased size 41 and got a perfect fit. These boots will keep you warm and dry and also breathe well enough to not make your feet sweaty. I would recommend these boots to anyone looking for a good wet weather riding boot...
