Mike Kernersville,  NC Gaerne - G-RW Road Race Boots OK here is the deal with these boots. The boots protect your ankle very well. They are very comfortable compared to many others I've tried. Everything about these boots is great except they squeak like no other boot I have ever tried. The ankle guard is a hinged mechanism and the screws that are used to support the plastic ankle guard will create a squeak when rubbed a certain way. This could have been avoided by including a nylon flange bushing or something similar to the screws, however the manufacture did not. I pulled the ankle guard off but it took a lot of elbow grease due to they used lock tight on the screws and the nut is floating inside a pocket of the boot, basically as you turn the screw the nut will turn too, so I had to pry enough force onto the guard to prevent the nut from rotating, I just got lucky it was enough to break the locking element. Anyways, I have fixed mine to prevent squeaking and feel like I have a really nice pair of boots that don't squeak anymore. So in conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this boot to anybody that would find a squeaky boot annoying, however I would recommend it to somebody that wants maximum protection on the track, where nobody cares about squeaky boots anyways. Hope this helps.
